5.0 out of 5 stars Great product at a great price
This product is great. Buying it at full price is over $300. The only thing is that normal people will probably have to get it installed at a shop which costs anywhere from $70-$200 according to the places I asked which still costs less than buying it full priced. In addition to the normal alarm, you can install an LED light, panic mode, valet mode, flashing parking...

It's a good basic alarm but I don't like the on board shock sensor. This makes it difficult to mount the brain in an ideal location under the dash without compromising the sensor sensitivity. The only thing is that normal people will probably have to get it installed at a shop which costs anywhere from $70-$200 according to the places I asked which still costs less than buying it full priced. In addition to the normal alarm, you can install an LED light, panic mode, valet mode, flashing parking lights, door trigger, shock sensor, and keyless entry. These extras cost more to install but they are so worth it if you want to protect your car.

this alarm is amazing for the price. it has many many features that can be added on. the only con i can think of is the aux outputs are a negative voltage instead of a positive. which makes no sense considering most devices in a vehicle do not use ground for switching especially when u already have relays installed for things.

I bought one of these (not from Amazon) for one of my cars-I liked it so much that I had to buy another for my other car. I came to Amazon to compare prices and Amazon had the best price for it. This is not "overly sensitive". It's great because you can set it to how YOU want it. Easy to install too.

If you want to take advantage of the programming feature, you need a bit writer. This can be expensive...another way the manufacturer makes more money. In the end, I returned the unit for another alarm brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Far So Good, September 13, 2011

It did the install on my 81 Jeep CJ7 over a 2 day period as I have limited mobility. I gave it the juice 2 days ago and everything worked perfectly without even using the Bit Writter. I did go through the steps and program it using the BitWriter which is a must to fine tune your Viper 3002. Plus the BitWriter gives you the advantage of programming your Alarm whnever you want to add or change something to your alarm. You can also charge someone $30 to program thier alarm and make a little money at it.

I got an additional Stinger Shock Sensor and Proximity Sensor. I used a mercury switch for the hood and I have a few other secrets I installed. I also bought the back-up battery unit which is a no-brainer.

Everything works wonderfully. I can get about 2 inches from the vehicle while covered with a Noah and it cherps. I can give the Jeep a nudge and it cherps. If I smack the wheel or bumber it sets the alarm off. If I reach my hand into the vehicle the alarm goes off. If I try to open the hood, the alarm goes off.

It was a great choice to buy the extra Stinger Shock Sensor instead of just relying on the "On-Board Shock Sensor" inside of the unit itself. The proximity sensor is a must and fun to watch people get close to you vehicle back off when they get too close.

So Everything works! You must buy the BitWriter because I just can't see doing all the work which I soldered every single connection and then spending the time programming the alarm using your remote device. That would be insane!

If I have problems with it I'll let you know.

I also suggest going to the12volt.com to get your wiring instructions for diodes, relays (I had to rig one up for the light flash) and many answers to questions you might have.

I want to address why a person gave it only a two star rating. If you install this yourself and do what I explained above, you'll be able to program it youself which is something this person is not understanding. You can't blame a new American made Stratocaster of how badly it sounds, you have to blame the person trying to play it.

This alarm has several inputs which allows you to control your windows, door locks, dome lamp and whatever else you might want to control. Sure, the sky is the limit on which Viper to buy but the more stuff you make your alarm control, the more you increase the chance of having a false trigger. Then again if you solder all of your connections, which installers do not do without a hefty price and take your time, you won't have any problems.

Read through the manual, read through the wiring diagram of your vehicle, make a game-plan and just do it. There will be unforseen events that come up during the install but that's part of the deal. Take your time. It's better to take 2-3 days doing it right than taking 1 day and doing it wrong then come back to Amazon with bad attitude due to your own incompotence.

It comes with one LED remote which lets you know what Zone is being triggered by the number of Beeps and Flashing Lights and has a long range. When your alarm goes off and you're tucked away in PJ's in bed, the remote will wake you up if for some reason you can't hear the ear piercing siren which is adjustable as well. This LED remote also is the tool that helps you program the alarm if you fail to buy the BitWriter which would be a mistake not to.

This alarm comes with one regular non-LED remote which I find to be a better device to arm and disarm the alarm while I use the LED Remote more for a diagnosting tool and a tool to wake me up if/when the alarm goes off.

ANYONE with a will of independence can easily install this alarm and install it to it's fullest features as long as they have a wiring diagram of thier vehicle, have the tools needed to install it and are not in a hurry to get the job done.

Don't let anyone tell you that you can't get the job done! You are a Citizen of the Unites States if Amerca and we get the job done, PERIOD!

It's better to use the money you'd pay in labor charges and buy the tools you need to do the install youself and have those tools to use for another project.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and reliable alarm!, May 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Viper 3002 LED 2-Way (Electronics)
This alarm is great and can't beat the price from Amazon ($85) got it a month ago, it may change by now. Installed myself (first time) not that easy but not that hard based on what car you have, I have 97 Acura Integra and it worked like a charm. Do research on your car first it'll pay off and I'd recommend solder all wire connections if you can. Make sure you ground all wires in the same place and have good contact to the car. You will need to buy hood pin trigger if you want to use that option from the unit. The shock sensor is a bit sensitive and takes sometime to set using the remote, but if you have the BitWriter then you are set, I didn't use it but a friend of mine has it and it sure helps him program the unit. If you want to install more than one blue LED status lights (don't mix blue and red LED, the unit comes with one blue LED you can get more on ebay), make sure you connection them in series, I installed 3 of this baby and they're bright.

All and all this is a great alarm for what it costs and the instruction is not that bad, you can learn a lot more online on how to install it. The beep on the remote is a bit loud but I'm okay with that just need to get use to it. I've added the kill switch as well just to make sure I have cover all. I do recommend this alarm but you do need to RESEARCH on your car first if you decided to install it yourself. You can do it! and thanks Amazon to have this alarm for great price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good alarm for the price, November 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Viper 3002 LED 2-Way (Electronics)
I bought this alarm for my ice cream truck, a 1986 ford stepvan.
Easy install: I had never installed a alarm before, but I found all directions simple and easy to follow. I liked that I could choose which basic options I could install (the truck does not have automatic locks, so I just skipped that step).
Add Ons: I purchased and added the sound plug in and the sonic plug in. These options work better than the motion option that comes with the alarm. Add these, they are super easy, just plug them in. The sonic can be set to sound a warning when an intruder gets to close.
Remotes: you get two and they work well. They also work at a good distance. One one the remotes has a tendency to eat batteries and keeps falling apart. Other than that, I love this alarm.

Bottom line: it has effectively kept out break in attempts. It is well worth the money.
