I just had a Viper 4204V Remote Starter installed at Best Buy into my 1998 Corolla with auto trans. I paid $305. + tax. It took about 4 hours to install. It comes with two different remote controls; a smart 2-way remote with LEDs (model 7254V) and a less intelligent one-way remote (model 7153V) without LEDs. The LEDs on the 7254V remote are called "Ghost Lights". With the Ghost lights and different chirps, beeps, and tones, the remote helps confirm or unconfirm when a function has sucssesfully happened or not. They also give other warnings like when your engine is about to shut down because you didn't tell the unit you were in the car OR when your remote's batteries are just about dead.

Here's what blows me away... This remote control's starting distance is absolutely remarkable. The signal goes through walls and buildings for hundreds, if not thousands of feet. Also, the confirmation beeps and Ghost Lights on the 2-way remote control (7254V) are super helpful. I had the installer guy program a lock-out on the remote control so I must press the "start" button twice using the right timing in order for the car to start. The unlock/lock buttons on the remote control still only need one press, so I still can accidentally unlock/lock the car if the remote is left in my pocket, but it will probably never false start. Luckily, the remote control makes so much noise when a button is pushed, I'd probably hear it go off in my pocket. (as of 11/4/13, I have never accidentally unlocked, locked or started my car. I do NOT keep my keys with remote in my pocket).

Also, there is a small Viper "Control Center" unit that is located on the inside of the windshield behind the rearview mirror. It houses the antenna and a Valet button on it.

I had this professionally installed and I do very much enjoy it so far. The range is unbelievable even though I believe its a 1/2 mile unit, i have started my vehicle from farther away than that. The start time from when the car receives the signal is the fastest i have ever seen from any remote start that I have had installed before. From the time it receives the signal its less than 5 seconds to the car being running. I have installed on an 02 Tahoe and it works WITH my factory alarm. My biggest and really only gripe with this unit is I was about 99% sure the installer told me I was getting TWO 2-way remotes. NO. You get ONE 2-way Remote and ONE 1-way remote. so if you want TWO 2-way remotes you have to shell out another 50ish dollars depending on where you would buy it from. If you don't know the difference, the 2-way remote has lights on it that will flash and will chirp when it receives the signal BACK from the vehicle indicating that it just executed whatever you told it to do. Whereas a 1-way remote sends the signal but you have no confirmation (without line-of-sight on the vehicle). This is the whole reason I spent extra money on a 2-way system as I do not have Line-of-Sight on my vehicle at my home or at work so I HAVE to have the confirmation on the remote. Other than that, I have owned 4 vehicles with remote starts, all different brands and types, and as far as responsiveness and over happiness, I would say that the VIPER blows them all away.

Edit: I have had this about a month now so I have been able to adequately test it with/without interference. I have a lot of interference where I work (old warehouse with a lot of steel) and have now confirmed that the signal that sends to the car is stronger than the signal you receive back to the remote.

Simple install if you buy the right components. Range is fantastic, talks over, around and, through walls. Convenient button locations and size of remote is nice.

I give it this rating because it is doing far more than I expected and does it very well. I little tricky to get it all hooked up, but wow. Sure was worth the time. About a 7 or 8 hour project. Thanks Viper. Great product.

Haven't used it to its full potential, but I'm sure glad to have it in my car. Winter time in the Midwest... Need I say more? I just needed a solid product in my ride so that I can jump into a toasty one that is ready for me to put it in drive. Can't go wrong with Viper, right? Didn't need the frills of the latest model or even an alarm with it. I just needed the assurance of a two way and its range. And, I will almost always buy refurbished, especially in this case. Save for the remote fobs (which are are always going to be a liability), the brain is sitting inside a relatively controlled environment like a vehicle. So long as its factory refurb, like the seller has assured, I'm good. As I stated, having just put it in, I have yet to put it through its paces. I will say this, I'm buying another to put in my wife's car ASAP. That's how good I feel with this whole transaction. Thanks for the fast as hell shipping (considering it was the holidays), and a solid (re)presentation of a product that already stands on its own merit. More business to come...

Everything works perfectly. However didn't like the default programing. It comes programmed for manual transmissions. Only way to find this out is by reading the fault code (blinking light and horm honks). Once I changed the programming, everything was great. Also had to change the crank time programming for a longer crank time, from 0.6sec to 1.2 sec.
