Product Description

The Viper 5706v Responder LC3 is a complete security and remote start system with a full one mile range. The remote has easy to understand priority icons and a text screen on a LCD display. This allows you to command and monitor the vehicle with simple and prioritized buttons. The five buttons control up to 24 different functions on two cars! Plus, it is the slimmest display remote on the market today but still packed with the latest features. Not only is this a security system but it also has remote start capabilities. If the Active Temp Check is selected, the Responder will display the temperature inside of the vehicle instead of the time. This comes in handy as it lets you view the temperature before actually walking to your car. Not cool, or warm enough in your car yet? Use the Runtime reset to extend your runtime and let it reach the perfect conditions. If anything happens to your vehicle, the security system will notify you right away if you are within range, playing the Revenger siren tones.

The Viper 5706V is DEI's latest flagship Viper unit. Overall I'm very pleased with the units. I've installed one in both my Wife's Venza, and my own Prius C.

Pros of the new unit:
The remote, despite DEI's own advertising info, has a new MICRO-USB (NOT MINI!) charging port
The new remote seems more rugged, and is thinner, BUT wider than the old remotes

Cons:
I can't believe that its 2013 and we still only have the bitwriter as a programming option (hello USB to PC!)

The antenna is VERY easy to break. I pre-ran my antenna wire to the mirror, and after the install using about 4" of slack I bent it to a 90 degree angle to install it on the back of the rear-view. However, once I did that the unit stopped working. After some troubleshooting I found that the harness backed out and bent many pins. I had to take the unit apart, and spend a lot of time with the tiniest tool I could find to carefully bend them back. Afterwards it worked ok - but then I settled for installing the antenna at a 45 degree angle instead of parallel with the mirror.

I also fell like the antenna control center looks/feels cheap this time. The last few revisions weren't so bad but this latest just feels like one of the competitors cheap imitations.

Charge the remote before install - both showed 2 or 3 bars, but after locking just once during testing they went into low battery mode. A full charge fixed them up, but on the first install I trusted the remote reading and had to wait for the battery to charge to to finish programming.

I highly suggest a good hour+ on the bench removing the wires you won't use, combining the ones that need to be and grouping wires into bundles that are headed the same place.

This remote start is very nice actually. Great remote, great receiver distance, etc. I had a friend of mine install it who installs remote starts for a living. After a week the antenna quit working. Turns out this is a known issue with these remote starts. From what I understand DEI/Viper has addressed the issue and changed the antenna. When I contacted DEI they told me to get bent and couldn't help me unless I was dealing with an approved installer/ dealer. That doesn't help me. I have to now buy an antenna locally for my remote start to work. Contacted Amazon via chat and they decided to refund me $40 (the cost of a new antenna). Amazon is great and has come through. Thumbs up.

This is an amazing alarm system.

Pros:
* Extremely far range. Your range will be further in the winter and shorter in the summer. This has to do with how the signal travels through colder air, compared to warmer air.
* Very convenient screen. The screen immediately lets you know what is going on with your vehicle.
* Long lasting battery. I charge mine every 3 weeks or so, but can last much longer.
* Easily expandable
* Levels of arming. Silent arm, defogger switch, sensor bypass, temperature request (inside cabin of vehicle) and many more! Search Google for "Viper advanced commands".

Cons:
* The screen is easily scratched. An easy fix - cut an iPhone screen protector with a sharp blade to fit onto your remote.

Be VERY careful when buying this product. I bought this system through amazon and had it installed at Best Buy. Few weeks ago, I try to unlock my truck and the remote keep buzzing like it can't get a signal. I give up and open the door with the key and the alarm does not go off. I start my truck to run to the store and, guess what . . . the truck will not turn off!!! This is real,I can't turn my truck off at all. I take out the key and the vehicle still idles. I call viper. They try and pair the remote back and it does not work. they establish that my receiver is toast. Better yet, it is not covered under their warranty(couldn't really explain to me why. After all, it is not a ware and tear item). Anyway, they suggest I take it to the installer. So I drive to Best Buy that installed my unit leave the car (idling mind you) in the parking lot, run inside and literally beg them to help me turn my car off. I get a resounding NO. We are too busy, you don't have your original receipt with you and warranty work must be scheduled ahead. I plead that I will schedule the repair, just help me turn my car off. Again the answer is no we are too busy and can't help you.
I call viper back and try to get them to guide me. "disconnect the battery" they say (which is ridiculous because cars will keep running without a battery) but I do it anyway and almost get electrocuted by the back feed from the alternator. It does not work. Viper refuses to help me because I am not a technician and suggest I can take it to another installer that will look at it for a nice fat fee of course. Meanwhile it has been three hours and my car is still running and can't be shut down. I make a judgement call and drive to the car dealership.
