Virgil's Microbrewed Root Beer contains these key all-natural ingredients:
unbleached cane sugar
Along with these natural herbs and spices (including point of origin):
anise from Spain
licorice from France
vanilla (bourbon) from Madagascar
cinnamon from Ceylon
clove from Indonesia
wintergreen from China
sweet birch from the southern US
molasses from the US
nutmeg from Indonesia
pimento berry oil from Jamaica
balsam oil from Peru
cassia oil from China
This is what all other root beers attempt to recreate. Virgil's Root Beer is an amazing experience--I picked up a four-pack from my local Hannaford's and am thrilled to find out that Amazon carries this product. From the bottle: little head, consistent but relaxed carbonation, and deep and rich brown (mahogany?) color. The nose of this root beer (that's a funny way of looking at it, no?) is rich and complex. The neck label states, "made with natural ingredients-nutmeg, imported anise, and wintergreen"; the smell is something that you will keep returning to as you attempt to understand the depth in just the smell. The taste matches the nose: you will struggle to understand how this tastes almost like a root beer barrel--but is so very different than any other root beer you've had.
I've had three bottles now over the past week, and I am truly fascinated by this root beer. I'll give it a solid five stars for the unique depth and purity. If I could, I would add a star for how incredibly delicious it is!
The bottle reports that this is a "taste so pure, you'll swear it's made in heaven." It must be, indeed!

This is in my opinion the best root beer on the market...just not for $5.12/bottle(item). I felt the description was a bit misleading. It says four per pack, thinking package not an actual four pack as you can purchase this four pack in a grocery store for $5.49. You would never pay more than $3 dollars a bottle in a restaurant for virgil's. Thought I was getting a good deal on amazon instead I feel that was dooped by misleading/lack of information on the description. It should say that its only one four pack as the other sellers have noted.
