5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome little speakers!
These things are awesome! I was looking for some small portable speakers to use with my Dell DJ. I bought and returned a set of Sony portable speakers because the sound was SO bad. I wasn't sure about these seeing as how the price was the same as the Sony I had returned, but I thought I could always return these as well. What a great surprise! These things sound GREAT...

The look and style is great - so is the portability - it's easy to carry around BUT it kills batteries easily. Virgin needs to provide an AC power adapter - which is hard to find - but then this nixes the portability. The next solution is to get rechargeables. The other negative is the little latch to open the battery door - it's very hard to open the first time - you...

I wasn't sure about these seeing as how the price was the same as the Sony I had returned, but I thought I could always return these as well. What a great surprise! These things sound GREAT! They pack up into a neat little tube to take along, and you can't beat the price! For $40 you get the speakers, a carrying case, all the cables you need, and they even include the batteries! They also include a set of earplugs marked "for your neighbors" :o) An incredible deal!!! WELL worth the money!

4.0 out of 5 stars Virgin Boomtube Speakers, November 11, 2005
This review is from: Virgin VS0200 Boomtube Portable Speakers (Electronics)
Sound is terrific, plenty of volume and good base. I have used them with my Rio MP3 player and especially when used with my Dell PC sound is louder. Only downer is no AC adapter and the off/on button on the Boomtube can be engaged while stored. More than once I have run the batteries dead because of this. I'd recommend rechargeable batteries and removing one for transport.

I bought these before I bought the GoVideo 8.4" Portable DVD player that was offered for $160. The player has decent speakers considering the size but when the Boomtube is hooked up to the DVD....WOW.
I have a Panasonic portable CD player with an audio outlet... great sound. Crisp...clear...very enjoyable. Best I have ever heard for this size of speaker(s).

PS...very pleased with the DVD player so far. 8.4 is a decent size IMO.

The sound is good enough for a portable solution. The range is a little limited given the size of the unit. The volume is what this item has alot of! I use it at work with my minidisc and computer and it is a snap. On my minidisc there is no preamp so volume levels just barely go higher than what is acceptable my office at work when I max the volume out. But the Dell I use at work has a 5 or 3 watt preamp in the sound so it projects alot louder. Little or no distortion as far as I can tell. Hardly no boom without the sub though. But thats ok for me.

Overall a nice gadget that is pretty loud and sharp looking. If you need to hear bass and don't want to invest in a pile of rechargeable AA batteries this is not the one for you. Go with the larger more expensive model as it has a sub and a lithium-ion rechargable battery. The larger one recharges and comes with and AC adapter as well, but you only have the one rechargable battery that you will probably never find a extra of. But I guess since it has the AC adapter it's not a big problem really. Thats the only down side of my unit really: no AC adapter with this unit unlike the larger one.

Personally? I perfer the smaller unit and the 4 AA's it uses is a plus b/c I scored 24 Ni-MH 2400mah batteries a few months ago here on Amazon. And the size is about that of a small thin 2-3 cup thermos. Since it has no AC adapter I always run it on batteries and just replace the batteries when I need to. This unit is very portable if you get rechargable batteries.

These speakers won't blow your ear drums but are loud enought to take to the office or the park and jam out proper. Good for a lan box or a console in a pinch too. They are also kinda sexy in the silver finish with the Virgin logo right up front, but that's just me being shallow:0

5.0 out of 5 stars Boom tube Speakers Great Sound., August 23, 2007
This review is from: Virgin VS0200 Boomtube Portable Speakers (Electronics)
I bought these speakers to use in my Massage Therapy Practice. They sound is great, and they come with the drawl string bag they fit nicely into, which fits well in my tables cover side pocket. I rate these as 5 stars and I think they are, but the wire thing is a little much at first when you should be able to setup your table and dress it and everything else you will use for giving a massage in less than 1.5 minutes. So I took 3 different color markers and colored the wires, for faster setup. Red for right, Blue for left, and Black for input. And if you fix the three wires together on one end about 4 inches from the end you will have them together to plug into the back of the control unit much easier.

Virgin needs to provide an AC power adapter - which is hard to find - but then this nixes the portability. The next solution is to get rechargeables. The other negative is the little latch to open the battery door - it's very hard to open the first time - you need like an eyeglasses screwdriver to pick at it and pop it out. I nearly killed the door the first time I loaded the batteries - which took me nearly an hour to do so (didnt have the appropriate tool). It seems like the engineer spent time on the sound - which is great for the price - but then gave up when designing the battery compartment. It's cheap so hey, you get what you pay for. Btw, forget about asking help from their service department - Virgin does not reply at all!

These speakers are tiny but they sound VERY good. I have listened to many small speakers that claim to sound good but these sound miles better than any set I have heard at an electronics store or at an Apple Store hooked up to an iPod. Although it does not come with an AC adapter, it was a small matter of taking the unit to Radio Shack and getting one for less than 10 dollars. I have no idea why anyone would be disappointed with this product. If battery life is a problem, get rechargeable batteries. The battery lid is a bit flimsy but the unit as a whole is quite solid, sturdy and well built. The most important element of a speaker is the sound and this unit gets the job done: bottom line.
