5.0 out of 5 stars Improving on the Material Girl Herself
The second Volume of Virgin Voices can't be called a sequel. It's an even better mix of acts giving a unique spin to the Material Girl's music.

Ofra Haza turns "Open Your Heart" into a beautiful ballad. If Madonna did Open your Heart now... this is exactly how she would make it sound.

Even a Madonna loyalist would flinch at most of these sad remixes. Testimony to the phrase "Don't fix what ain't broke."

One would think that having a variety of Madonna songs sung by male vocalists would be an interesting change of pace. Well the pace has certainly changed but is interesting for all the wrong reasons.

This review is from: Virgin Voices 2: Tribute to Madonna (Audio CD)
The second Volume of Virgin Voices can't be called a sequel. It's an even better mix of acts giving a unique spin to the Material Girl's music.

Ofra Haza turns "Open Your Heart" into a beautiful ballad. If Madonna did Open your Heart now... this is exactly how she would make it sound.

Following that is Switchblade Symphony with Lucky Star, making you wonder who'd luckier.

Dale Bozzio (From Missing Persons) puts you "Into the groove" for real. The Razed In Black remix of Erotica takes it even farther.

The only low point of the disc is Cherish, which leaves you wondering when the song is going to take off. The song stays at the same monotone... Set with the other songs on the CD it's a let-down.

If you enjoyed VVv1 you will LOVE this one! It's even better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent interpretations of classic Madonna songs, March 17, 2003
By
This review is from: Virgin Voices 2: Tribute to Madonna (Audio CD)
If some people don't like tribute albums especially the first volume of "Virgin Voices", why on god's green earth did they bother buying the second volume? I personally love both volumes, and this is coming from someone who really don't buy tribute albums for the most part. Of course I am also a big synth-pop, goth, and industrial fan so I can't really hate what I heard with the exceptions of one or two tracks from the first volume of "Virgin Voices". The second volume is my personal favorite. One of my favorite tracks off the album is Ofra Haza's unique interpretation of "Open Your Heart". I thought the song sounded as good as a ballad as it is as a dance song. I found Sigue Sigue Sputnik's version of "Ray of Light" sound eerily similiar to the original despite the fact that the person singing the song is a guy. Missing Person's Dale Bozzio definitely reminded me a lot like '80s Madonna with her high pitched vocals. My personal favorite track on this album has to be Mephisto Waltz's version of "Skin", one of my personal favorite Madonna songs. The goth version of the song sends chills down my spine. I thought the most interesting covers were Skinny Puppy's Orge with "Borderline" with his rough vocals (like KMFDM's interpretation of "Material Girl") and BIGOD 20 with "Like a Prayer". The only weak track was A Flock of Seagull's version of "This Used to Be My Playground". Lame song, even lamer band. Cleopatra Records should have gotten some other band to record the song. Overall I enjoy both volumes of "Virgin Voices". Definitely better than the other Madonna tribute albums out there that is collecting dust on cd racks.

Most will have never heard of the selected bands offering these tributes and for good reason. It is unfortunate to have heard of them at all; far worse to hear them butcher these songs.

Do yourself a big favor and just listen to Madonna get it right all over again on your old CDs.

2.0 out of 5 stars Only 3 good songs.(in my opinion), November 10, 2000

This review is from: Virgin Voices 2: Tribute to Madonna (Audio CD)
I am a BIG Switchblade Symphony fan, and I was constantly hearing about their version of "Lucky Star", but I was a bit disapointed by it. The good points to this CD to me seem to be: "Erotica"(Razed In Black) "Skin"(I'm not sure who redid this one, I don't have the artist listing with me) and "Like a Prayer"(Biggod 20? ;o) ) If there is any reason to buy this cd, I would definately say it would be for the version of "Like a Prayer"; I couldn't get this version out of my head for days. I can't even listen to the version of "Cherish" anymore, or I'll pee my pants laughing. As immature as it sounds, I can't help myself.

The album, and its predecessor are simply awfull. The only reason why this gets one star is BiGod20's 'Like A Prayer'.

3.0 out of 5 stars egh., August 4, 2000

This review is from: Virgin Voices 2: Tribute to Madonna (Audio CD)
this cd is good for only 3 reasons. track 4: borderline/ogre and track 9: razed in black/erotica and track 13: deeper and deeper/mark pistel with danger girl. however, these three tracks make the whole cd purchase worth while. these songs are actually covers as opposed to the rest of the cd where the artist basically just sings the original song with the original madonna musical spin. (of course bigod 20 doesn't count- but it's an old song and we've all heard it) so- if dropping [the money] for 3 songs doesn't rip away at your moral fiber- then you should be very pleased with the cd. as for the rest of it, the 80's band people doing covers still sounds like 80's music, and gothic bands doing their covers sounds painfully gothic as well. nothing new under the sun here....

1.0 out of 5 stars Is this CD a JOKE or What ?, October 16, 2001

Please avoid this CD, if you want a tribute to Madonna, go buy her Immaculate Collection and/or her upcoming GHV2. This CD (as well as Virgin Voices 1), contains the worst Madonna covers around.
