This review is from: Virginia Creepers: The Horror Host Tradition of the Old Dominion (DVD)
If you grew up in Virginia in during the 1950's - 1990's this is a must have DVD. The disc covers essentially every local TV late night horror host frm the 1950's to the present.

It includes many interviews with the (in most cases) still living hosts including favorites of mine like Dr. Madbllod, Bowman Body and Count Gore DeVol. Also iterviewed are fans, stage crew, producers, other actors and many more. Quite a few humerous anecotes including the theft of a coffin prop in Hampton, VA in the 1960's that local teens "borrowed" and sold .50 chances to have your photo taken in the coffin.

The DVD includes many clips from these classic shows.

Brings back a lot of wonderful memories. My only regret is hat it's only two hours long! I hope they will make a Virignia Creepers Part 2 with more interviews clips.

You will enjoy this DVD and be nostalgic for the days when there was more local programing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exhaustively researched; very entertaining; a true gem, June 1, 2011
This review is from: Virginia Creepers: The Horror Host Tradition of the Old Dominion (DVD)
The director and producer really delved deep into the little seen vaults of the Virginia television studios. He must have used a bloodhound to track down some of the horror hosts from the 1950s and the 1960s who have long since retired from television. It's a great ride through the decades, covering every horror host known to have broadcast a hosted movie in the state (and in Washington, DC). Karlos Borloff is here, and Count Gore DeVol, and Sir Graves Ghastly, and Ronald the Ghoul, and Hazel Witch, and Doctor Madblood... and many more, including Mr. Lobo, who narrates the documentary.

There were hosts I never heard of before, such as Ghoulda, and Jonathan, who both broadcast their shows in the late 1950s. Did you know that the small state of Virginia can boast the first horror host? Yep, and his history is here in this documentary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hello horror movie fans..., October 25, 2011

These folks did a great job of gathering interviews and clips of what was probably considered highly disposable local tv culture. My personal memories stretch back to Hazel Witch who introduced me to the Mummy and Frankenstein's Monster up to Dr. Madblood, who I could see from Norfolk when the moon was just right here in Richmond. It didn't matter how bad the movie was, they were there suffering through it with you.
