Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Tired of the same old tourist traps? Whether you're a visitor or a local looking for something different,
Virginia Off the Beaten Path® shows you the Old Dominion you never knew existed. Relax in Spa Min-Rale with products inspired by Virginia's own minerals and indigenous botanicals; visit the Trapezium House, a home built with no parallel walls or right angles; or go on a soapbox derby run down Mt. Trashmore. If you've "been there, done that" one too many times, get off the main road and venture Off the Beaten Path.

More About the Author

My next two books to reach the book stores are "Chesapeake Bay Crabs" cookbook, from Pelican Publishing (due September 30, 2011) and the 11th edition of "Virginia Off the Beaten Path" from Globe Pequot Press (due October 4, 2011). I will be signing copies of "Chesapeake Bay Crabs" at Sam's Club in Annapolis, Maryland, on October 15 from 10 am to 12 noon and at Costco in Hanover, Maryland (Arundel Mills), also on October 15 from 2 to 4 pm. It's hard back, 123 recipes (including a crab creme brulee dessert) and lots of photos. Great gift - have all your shopping done by mid October! Please stop by and say hello.

I'm a naturally curious person and I figure if I find something fascinating to me I can try to make it fascinating for you. Primarily, I consider myself a travel writer although my articles rarely appear in travel sections or publications. My articles might be about hotels that provide child-proofing services or where you can buy that wonderfully comfortable pillow from your favorite hotel.

I love it when someone says, "I didn't know that."

I've written about Super Bowl trivia and grocery shopping cart design trends. I have not written about mud wrestling. I've written for the Internet, international and national publications, and more than a dozen books.

A vast army of friends and associates (and some research) keep me informed about what's happening as it's happening. You're encouraged to contribute to my knowledge or suggest a topic or magazine looking for a writer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Errors are Costly, September 20, 2010

This review is from: Virginia Off the Beaten Path, 10th: A Guide to Unique Places (Off the Beaten Path Series) (Paperback)
While this was generally a good reference, we found some errors that proved to be costly in time, such as a wrong address that led us to the wrong end of town, and too late then to see the original Tiffany windows we were looking for. Also, the text is arranged in counties, but there is no map on the county page to know just where that county was, so we didn't know if we were in the area or not. Poorly arranged.

I bought this book for a friend retiring to Virginia, and it is a lot of interesting sites, organized by area, that one might overlook if just going by the maps.
He is looking forward to getting to know his new area, and this appears to be a good addition to his guide books and information.
