Best RR History,
By David Estep (Kopperston, WV USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Virginian Railway (Hardcover)
The Virginian Railway is an excellent introduction to the VGN, or to anyone interested in how a railroad starts up and operates. In addition to the text, it gives timetables, a chronological history with details, a complete loco roster with specifications, and a b&w photo section. More than facts and figures (there are plenty), Mr. Reid gives the human side of this relatively small company. Several officers and employees are introduced to the reader and there are many interesting or humorous stories from the line. Also good overview of the history of the Virginian's area of southern West Virginia and southern Virginia. It is a classic railroad text and I don't think that it could be any better.
