Readers & Writers Ink Book Club Review,
By The "Go-to Girl" for Grammar (Pensacola, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Virgin's Guide to Everything: From Sushi to Sample Sales--A Novice's Handbook to Doing It Right (Paperback)
I like everything about _The Virgin's Guide_: the color, double entendre title, the logo, the semi-pocket size, and the information. Reading it is like biting into a cherry - juicy information and lots of substance. My book club members and I will find this information a great springboard for conversation during our next outing. The information ranges the spectrum - details for the savvy world traveler AND the homebody who wants to be sophisticatedly informed about social proprieties.

So much fun,

I thought this was a cheeky, fun little book that serves as a great introductory guide to a wide range of activities and interests. I had no idea i was eating sushi incorrectly! It's definitely not comprehensive on any of the subjects but if you want light, usefel tips with just a touch of girliness, this is for you.

I think this book is great. When I graduated from college last year, I realized to my dismay that I didn't automatically become that sophisticated "adult" I expected to be, and I've had a tough time finding quick answers to a lot of my "how to" questions. Thanks, Lauren, for doing the research (and finding the "go-to girls") for me! I expect I'll be referring back to the guide often.

Great gift for yourself or someone else!,
By Topsy "TCK" (Jenkintown, PA) - See all my reviews

This book is a riot and amazingly useful. It answers so many questions that one is afraid to ask, even of their girlfriends. After all, once you admit that you've smelled the cork, it will haunt you for the rest of your life. McCutcheon touches on not only the superficial, but the all important subject of women's health, and there is financial advice to boot. I plan on giving it as a gift to my much younger brothers' girlfriends. Wish I had it ten years ago!

A clever, funny and unique "how-to" guide,
By Debbie C (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Virgin's Guide to Everything: From Sushi to Sample Sales--A Novice's Handbook to Doing It Right (Paperback)
This book is not like other "how to" guides that put you to sleep rather than provide you with any useful information. The book is cleverly written and so funny you don't want to put it down. The information provided in the book is up-to-date and the inserts from the "go-to-girls" feel like gossip (only useful gossip) you'd read in the style section of the New York Times.
Although the book seems geared to 20 somethings, the info provided will make 30 and 40 somethings feel like they're in the know!

I have only read sections of the book, but I did give it to a friend (female) and my sister for Christmas. They did not even ask if they could return it which is a first for them. It is going to be my "go to" gift for women, replacing the boring flowers and chocolates.

Are you a virgin?,

This review is from: A Virgin's Guide to Everything: From Sushi to Sample Sales--A Novice's Handbook to Doing It Right (Paperback)
No, not `that' kind of a virgin, but are you facing a few firsts in your life at this moment? Maybe it's your first business luncheon, or your first spa trip, or perhaps your first internet date. The truth is, there is always a first time for many things in all our lives and having someone to walk us through those times doesn't always happen, that is until now. Author Lauren McCutcheon has put together A VIRGIN'S GUIDE TO EVERYTHING: From Sushi to Sample Sales--A Novice's Handbook to Doing it Right to help those of us who need a little extra guidance with those oh so important firsts. This handy pocket guide includes answers and witty anecdotes to fulfill all those pesky little questions you'd probably ask your big sister if you had one. McCutcheon and her "Go to Girls" provide easy instructions, advice and sisterly candor as they navigate you through things like planning your first dinner party, expectations at your first gynecological exam, and even taking that first camping trip.
This handy guide slips right in your handbag and can be an easy reference tool or girl's best friend for those times when asking questions may be embarrassing. I found the guide to be easy to understand and even encountered a few things I hadn't done yet. Where was this book twenty years ago? In any event, this guide appears to be geared toward those under the age of thirty who would be experiencing many of these situations for the first time. It would make a nice gift for any young lady contemplating leaving home for the first time. Reviewed by Brenda M. Lisbon of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers

My sister gave me this for my 30th birthday and I immediately read it cover to cover--then ran out the next day to buy copies for all of my friends. SOOOO adorable, totally hilarious, perfectly-perfect!!! If you're stuck for a stocking stuffer, hostess gift, or bachelorette trinket, THIS is the way to go!

This is a great book to finally ask all those questions you may not have asked or too ashamed to admit you need the answers to. I believe as strong women we can still indulge our girlie side and it's interesting to muse and ponder what some other women have found works for them. It's a great read and touches on lots of areas that are both fun and useful. Pick it up today!

Sophomoric Drabble,
By Little Jean "Little Jean" (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Virgin's Guide to Everything: From Sushi to Sample Sales--A Novice's Handbook to Doing It Right (Paperback)
This is perhaps the worst book I have ever read in my life. It is full of sophomoric drabble the author presents as new and insightful information. The tired stories and advice are all retreads of information the average intelligent adult would have processed and learned from by middle high school. The author is either extremely immature to find such topics as refreshing and worthy of print or is stuck in a Peter Pan like existence unable to proceed into adulthood. Save your money and avoid this drabble, it is quite clear why it ranks so low on Amazon, it is an insult to present it for sale, I would like a refund.
