Editorial Reviews

Transylvanian's Negur-+¢ Bunget, are back after their stellar 'OM" album, ranked number 6 in the top 100 albums of the last decade by Terrorizer Magazine. Virstele Pamintului (The Ages of the Earth) is an album about embracing your destiny, about choosing and consciously assuming a way of life. The earth is where we came from and where go back into, the one from above and beyond us. this new album stands apart from other black metal bands through its bold invention, yet it is inextricably linked to that movement through spirit. There is a flame that burns brightly at the core of Negura Bunget, a deep-seated connection to the earth and to the natural which sees the music flow as naturally as the scenery that imbued the album with its spirit. This is a stunning cd that will undoubtedly appeal to black metallers but which has a wider appeal because the underlying themes are so primal and so inherent to anyone who yearns for freedom and nature rather than the trappings of day-to-day life

Format: Audio CD
I was worried that with the line up change the quality, or style, of the band would take a turn for the worse. Little was I prepared to like this album even MORE than Om or their other works. I've given the CD a full listen at least 5 times now and I can say that they have moved even a bit more towards the folkish sound compared to Om, but not by too much. There is still a great combination of a harsh black metal style and ambient/atmospheric tracks or backgrounds. The new vocalist is good, but not quite as a good. Overall, I actually think this may be their best release to date. If not, it's at least right up there with the others. You won't be disappointed.

Lot of critics think this is the be all and end all recording by Negura Bunget. I think Om is their masterpiece!Om has so many different elements to it. This CD hasn't really got my attention. I may come back and give another review after I listen to it more.
