4.0 out of 5 stars Addictive, challenging game play
This is the most polished Virtua Tennis in the series.

I played the older versions in PS2 and PSP. Game play wise, VT3 actually is the same as those older versions. You get the latest and greatest tennis stars and new mini games to power up your custom player. The interesting thing is in VT3 the computer AI is quite smart. You cant cruise through the game...

3.0 out of 5 stars Normal is easy; Hard is impossible
Great game, slick graphics & moreover 1080p! VT3 packs pretty much the same punch as those of the older ones. You can create a custom player in minutes and play tournament, world tour or even exhibition matches. Single player games & doubles are totally different from each other. You need different strategies for both. I really liked the next-gen waxy look of the players...

This is the most polished Virtua Tennis in the series.

You get the latest and greatest tennis stars and new mini games to power up your custom player. The interesting thing is in VT3 the computer AI is quite smart. You cant cruise through the game like before. Have to use some brain. Thats the nice part.

Other than part, its pretty much the same game as the previous versions with better graphics (1080p!)

If you never play Virtua Tennis before, then I highly recommend this game to you. Its easy to learn and play. Its fun and addictive.

VT3 is a pretty neat game. I've never played a VirtuaTennis game before. I was expecting some neat gameplay and some tournaments and that's it. However, the "World Tour" mode is very engaging. It give you a calendar with tournaments taking place around the world. You go to the minigames to hone the skills of your player so that you can win tournaments and move up the rankings. Along the way, you get new gear from sponsors and other players. It doesn't do much, but it's something. The neat part is how you have to manage your stamina to make sure you have enough when a tournament comes around. Once or twice, I was playing so many mini-games I forgot to go to the tournaments. My character "got the flu" from playing so hard without rest that he was out for 4 weeks. Kind of interesting.

The graphics are great and the motions are spot on. Once you get to more skilled players the action really heats up and gets very engaging. I was just ho hum about tennis before, but this really made it seem interesting and engaging.

If you think VirtuaTennis might be interesting, download the demo and try it. If you like the demo, you'll LOVE the game.

I already had the previous game on PSP and I loved it. Now, this one comes out on PS3 and it is soooo gooooood. Has excellent game play, very real movements, graphics are breathtaking. There is nothing wrong I can say about this game. If you like Tennis, this is a must have.

The best tennis game out!

4.0 out of 5 stars great fun... for a while, November 17, 2007

I've played this game for about 30 total hours now. It's very well done and addictive. Nice graphics, good depth in developing abilities with training games. The only gripes are about difficulty, Having mastered the gameplay, Hard is too easy, yet Very Hard is a nightmare. The CPU runs down EVERYTHING, and even when lunging returns shots at impossible angles to deny hard earned points. The volleying doesn't work like it should, also denying sure points with inexplicably weak returns. These "cheating" elements have now killed the game for me. The Chasm of Difficulty between settings really hurts an otherwise great title. With a friend it could still be very fun, but there's no online option. Worth the price, but could be better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun to play, August 8, 2007

As many users here, I owned the PSP version of this game, which was extremely fun and addictive. The PS3 version has several upgrades, but the game remains quite similar. Create a player and start practicing and participating in events to rank up and access more challenging championships.

With an extensive rooster to choose from, you'll soon be hooked up to this game, its easy to learn but it gets really challenging. Graphics are great, and most of the players resemble their life counterparts.

Where this game fails miserably is in the soundtrack. Its a non-stop arcadish tune that drives you insane during the matches, fortunately you can turn it off and enjoy the game.

Another issue is that the game lacks multiplayer option. I must say that it would be really fun to have a world ranking system, but probably to much to ask.

If you like tennis or looking for a simple and fun game to play, get Virtual Tennis.

PROS:
- Great Graphics
- Highly addictive
- multiple languages depending where you play

CONS
- Annoying soundtrack
- No mutiplayer options

4.0 out of 5 stars Virtua Tennis...., April 10, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Virtua Tennis 3 (Video Game)
Well let me start out by saying that I absolutely detest sport games I have never owned a single one for any of my consoles,But my friend (whom I met at a line up for the PS3's ^-^) Swore by this game and said I had to get it. So I went and bought it on the cheap for $11.75. And all I have to say is WOW what a game,You can make your own player and build his stats as you see fit,Pick were in the world you want your home base and do alot of fun mini games (aka training).

Overall a very good buy considering all the features it has to offer, only complaint...no online for PS3 :'(

Great game, slick graphics & moreover 1080p! VT3 packs pretty much the same punch as those of the older ones. You can create a custom player in minutes and play tournament, world tour or even exhibition matches. Single player games & doubles are totally different from each other. You need different strategies for both. I really liked the next-gen waxy look of the players though some feel it is too zombie-like. It's a personal preference. You can play fun games to improve your skills. However, there are few critical drawbacks to this otherwise fun game:

- AI is really, really intelligent. Almost superman like! It can predict your moves based on your game play and play shots in areas that you can't get on time. You would find that for the first few sets into the game, the play is fairly matched but as you go along, AI will smoke you! This leads to frustration since it is not fair how AI jumps across the ground anticipating your shots no matter how you apply your skills
- Limited shots. You might end up using the X for most part of the game. Few sets into the game if you try slicing or lobbying, AI will smack one right back to you. Hence you might exert caution and keep hitting the same X button to play horizontal shots. It's pretty much the timing and anticipation that counts more the varieties of shots themselves
- Impossible hard mode. As I mentioned earlier, playing a game in normal mode is too easy and hard mode is almost impossible. This might get frustrating after a while...not good for ego!
- Diving more than hitting. As you play longer, you would notice that no matter how high the profile of the player you select is, you will end up barely making it the ball and diving more than 50% of time to hit the ball back. Much like its predecessors, VT lets you build the power of the shot by timing earlier. However, due the AI's super intelligence, you will barely make it to the shot thereby eating dirt more than hitting the ball.

Summary: Great game nowhere close to being perfect!

This is great entertainment, excellent graphics and action. Weak points are the restricted number of players and lack of online gaming. Soundtrack is also annoying, but you can choose to turn it off.

Federer, Nadal, Monfit, etc... They move as if you were watching them in a real match. The only thing is that the graphics could be better on the players. Great price too.
