4.0 out of 5 stars Virtual Pose Children & Teens: Good, but could be better
I bought this book because I'm often unable to find good references for my painting and drawing, and it's not generally feasible to get a model. The photography and lighting are well done. I think though, that I'd like to see some poses with different, maybe more dramatic lighting. I really like the CD and book format. Perhaps a wider variety of child model types...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great idea, needs more variety.
I'll start by saying this is a fantastic idea. The interface provides an amazing amount of freedom for viewing the models. However, as an illustrator who needs a broad range of children to work from, this collection was lacking. If you're looking for an animated young girl, this will do you fine. The handful of models that follow are less interested. If you need both boys...

I think though, that I'd like to see some poses with different, maybe more dramatic lighting. I really like the CD and book format. Perhaps a wider variety of child model types (possibly a few who are younger than those featured) would be nice. I would have preferred a bigger variety of poses. Not all of the poses seem well thought out. I think adding more naturally active (running/playing) poses would be good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice idea, May 10, 2011

What a nice idea. I've seen a few products of this kind with adult models, but this was the first product that I came across presenting children. I was recently in need of some very young models and I found this book invaluable. By rotating each pose, I had several views to work from. I was able to mix and match different characteristics from different poses to get what I needed. I also found it to be an extremely useful reference when I needed to remind myself of how clothing drapes on a dress, shirt or a pair of jeans. I will definitely be adding this book and cd to my library for future use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good resource, April 13, 2010

This book/cd is a very useful resource for an artist. It demonstrates body positioning for different ages of children. Although I would like to have seen some even younger kids. There were no kids under what appeared to be about 8 years old. I think it is helpful in a more general rather than specific way. For example, if I wanted to illustrate a child gardening, I could find a pose similar and improvise, but if I wanted a very specific pose I would be better off using my own model. It is good for determining proportion and positioning. Overall, it is worth the money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Remarkably unhandy, November 16, 2009

I've bought several art 'pose' CDs/DVDs, and got this one as a hopefully handy reference for drawing younger models. Unfortunately the images are all very firmly packaged in Quicktime (QT) movies which kept crashing on me, despite updating the program, and I wasn't willing, as the readme file recommended, to upgrade to the paid-for QT-Pro. Stills are only available as 'screen captures' - I won't be purchasing from this series again.

I enjoy this book so much! It is a very helpful reference. It is not really good for actual figure drawing because you can't see the actual figure, but they're children, so it's understandable. I like how there are multiple views of one pose and the CD-ROM is helpful, but I don't think it is really needed.

As an artists/illustrator, this book will serve me very well as a reference book. It has a good variety of poses that can be used for illustrating childrens books.
