Indispensable reference guide for online presenting,
By
This review is from: The Virtual Presenter's Handbook (Paperback)
Readable. Engaging. Informative. Fun. This is one tool that I can use on a regular basis for any size of on-line audience I present to. Roger gives easy to replicate strategies that I can put to use right away. Along with this, he highlights the issues that differentiate virtual presenting from other forms of presenting and gives tips for adjusting delivery styles. What a great resource!

Justify Why You Ask Presenters To Do Something,
By Glenda N. Lembicz (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Virtual Presenter's Handbook (Paperback)
This book is a quick read - I read it in one afternoon. If you've attended one of Roger's webinars, it is pretty much the same information. I plan to use it to explain to the "non-professional" presenter how to present virtually - just because one is knowledgeable about the subject matter does not mean they are a presenter. It provides the reason "why" I'm asking them to do it a certain way.The only drawback, is the book isn't a visually pleasing as Roger's webinars are. However, it does follow the format - introduce, explain, and key take-away. I guess I would have liked the little cliparts to draw my attention better. Oh way, Roger covered that - Don't Date Yourself.

Unfortunately, this book is poorly edited...lots of typos. Second, the information really doesn't help that much. If you are already delivering webinars, you will already know most of what this author is writing about. Also, the book seems to be all over the place making it difficult to follow. That is why I gave this book a rating of 1 star.

The information in this book was good, but basic. Of course, everyone reading it has a different level of expertise. I would recommend it for people with begining webinar skills.

Fantastic resource for those who work and present remotely!,

This review is from: The Virtual Presenter's Handbook (Paperback)
This is a great resource full of practical and actionable advice for presenting, meeting, and working in a virtual world. Great not only for those of us who are familiar with presenting online (but could use a bit of improvement) but also for those who are new to the discipline. Full of insight delivered in an accessible (and witty) style. I highly recommend!

I purchased this book after reading some rave reviews about the author. I've seen more valuable tips in free blogs.

Book is very easy to read and has some good points but I don't think it was worth the $20 I paid for it. Now if I paid to see him live and they gave me the book, okay. Retail value should be arouns $11

This review is from: The Virtual Presenter's Handbook (Paperback)
This was a very straight forward how to book with the added bonus of having any very good ideas incorporated into it. I'll admit to being relatively new to this idea of presenting via the web, but I believe this book makes it possible for a novice to get started. Some of the ideas on choosing a target audience were helpful, and possibly the most helpful were the ideas on which pitfalls to avoid. Very worthwhile.

I really enjoyed this book and managed to read it in one sitting. It is concisely written, informative and has plenty of practical examples of virtual presenting best practice and some great anecdotes about things that can go wrong. It's formatted to be easily read and also as a quick reference guide for future use. Roger is the webinar guru and he shares some real pearls of wisdom in The Virtual Presenter's Handbook. Buy the book.

Roger Courville's book is the seminal work on delivering information in a virtual medium. Yes, there are lots of blogs and checklists out there that give you a breezy sense of what is required to create a webinar. They are free for a reason. This book is the HOW; with myriad details about the nuts and bolts of designing and producing a dynamic presentation while managing the powerful potential (and risks) of online tools. Roger gives you definitive instruction, honed from extensive experience (and the occasional misstep), including: * Beginning and ending a webinar effectively * Addressing the expectations of the audience * Dealing with the technical issues of a remote audience * Delivering your message to keep participants focused and engaged * Designing slides effectively * Having a great moderator * Managing Q&A from the audience * Evaluating pros and cons of interactive webinar tools * Using interactive tools effectively * Identifying and mitigating the risks of online presentations (and there ARE risks!) * Moving ahead when stuff goes wrong. This is important ... because stuff WILL go wrong! What? You didn't think you needed to know all this to deliver a successful webinar? Well...you do! Conduct one and see. If you leverage virtual presentations in your business - and I do - the investment in this book is mission critical. (I do believe I paid more to have business cards printed.) Buy it, and save yourself the drama of not getting it right the first time! |
