So the box shows up and we start assembling the tent. The first sign of trouble was the instructions. They are one page and a small diagram. They reference all the interior poles by number which is helpful but unfortunately none of the poles (except 2) actually had the number on them. Okay, so we get it figured out on our own and put the frame together. The poles don't actually lock together very well so when we tried to put the enclosure over the frame the poles kept coming apart. Very frustrating but we keep going. After much tugging and pulling the enclosure finally wrapped around the frame but was much too tight and very hard to zip up. As soon as I grabbed a zipper and pulled on it the material on zipper tore and it constantly bleeds light through the hole now.
After assembly we realized that there is only one small vent hole in the corner and that is it (our other tent has plenty of holes on each corner). No precut holes for more ducting or cables made it very hard for us to plan our setup. After we finally got our layout down we started running ductwork and hanging lights. We got everything together and hung the lights and moved our plants into our new garden. After about 3 days one of the poles came loose on the roof and our lights fell. The lights were fine but I can't say the same for our plants..... We then realized that if we tried to hang the lights again the same thing would happen. In the end we had to use a peice of PVC piping and a PVC tee cut in half to wedge between the bottom and top poles.Read more ›
I have generally been very happy with Virtual sun products (specifically, their horticultural products). The price is hard to argue with and so far I have not had any problems with the others. Because of my positive experiences, I decided to try out their grow tent line for my carnivorous plant collection.
First, when I received the package, the box was quite beat up. Personally I do not mind that much as long as the product makes it ok- a beat up box can be cause by any number of things. Upon opening the packaging up I found that the cross beams (for holding the lights and equipment) were metal with plastic clips at the end. I remember seeing this and think "oh boy, don't know about that...." but I decided to try it anyway as I did not have time to ship it back and shop for something else. Further, one of the cross beams arrived to me with one of the plastic clips busted off.
Assembling the tent was very easy (more so than my "Sun Hut" brand tent- but mainly on account of the weight of the tent itself). The tent is assembled with hollow metal beams connected together with plastic connectors(I am now talking about the frame, not the crossbeams). I felt a bit iffy about the plastic connectors and so far they have held but I lack faith that they are durable in the long run.
The tent material itself is very cheap and poorly assembled.Read more ›
