This is the best cookbook I ever read! I love how it was written. The author put together a great deal of information and arranged it in a interesting Q&A format. The recipes are very flavorful, appealing and easy to follow. It's becoming a true favorite in my kitchen. I never realized soy was so versatile and could taste so great! It's proving to be a handy book at my house. I know my family and I will refer back to it time and again. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK! - Well Worth the Price!, July 23, 2001

This is so much more than just a cookbook. It is also a very informative health guide. Monique Gilbert does an excellent job at presenting the information in a very logical and conversational way. She explains how and why soy is good for you, and provides a lot of sound evidence. It's like having an interview with her. I even caught myself asking a question at the end of one section, only to find a similar question with the answer in the next section. The recipes are very easy to follow and each one I tried came out great. There is such a wide variety of recipes to choose from. I tested over two dozen and some of my favorites are "Soy Sweet and Sour Peppers," "Creamy Broccoli Soup," "Tofu Cream Cheese" and "Pumpkin Spice Walnut Cookies." I love how Monique puts the ingredients in the order used and her directions are very clear. It's like she's right next to you, anticipating your next move, and advising you how to proceed. The first part of this book thoroughly explains soy's nutritional advantages and how you should eat a balanced diet. She educates you about all kinds of illnesses, such as stroke, heart disease, osteoporosis, cancer and more. She then tells you how soy can help. I really think this is a great book and I am advising everyone I know to get it! Anyone interested in a healthy diet will be just as pleased with this book as I am.

5.0 out of 5 stars DELICIOUS RECIPES - GREAT BOOK!!, April 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Virtues of Soy: A Practical Health Guide and Cookbook (Paperback)
I bought this book several months ago, and during this time it has become my favorite cookbook. Each recipe I try is better than the next. The bread section is outstanding - I never made homemade bread before. But with the great instructions in this book, I overcame my fears and have been making terrific, mouth-watering breads ever since. This book has it all, from soups to salads, sandwiches to side-dishes, main entrees to dessert. The longer I have this book, the more I appreciate it. The information is easy to understand and the recipes are VERY easy to follow. Best of all, they are fool proof. I have yet to make a bad dish with this book!

Also, while this book is 98% vegan (no meat, no dairy, no eggs); it does have 4 types of egg recipes for when my vegetarian (and non-vegetarian) friends and family visit (omelets, french toast, scrambled eggs and egg salad). The thing that is really great is that the author manages to make one egg seem like two. Also, there are no hidden eggs in any recipes. All the desserts (brownie, cookies and cakes) have no eggs in them!

I can't say enough about how great this book is. I absolutely recommend it to everyone!!
