Great intro to the study of mariachi, February 20, 2004
This review is from: Virtuoso Mariachi (Paperback)
This is a great book for anyone interested in the history
and evolution of Mexico's traditional music, Mariachi. I'm a
classicaly trained violinist and I've recently began playing
mariachi music. Although this book was written through the
perspective of a mariachi trumpet player, I still find it
useful as a violinist.
At a time where the literature covering the topic of
mariachi is so scarce, this book has been a welcomed addition
to my library and I hope it will be to yours as well. I do
however, wish that Dr. Nevin would have gone more in depth
into the study of the different Son types or given a reference
as to where we,the readers, might find more information about the subject,
but other than that, I think it's an excellent
book.
Bravo!
