This CD shows Christians virtuosity yet it also proves that the trombone is capable of more than slow ballads. Ive studied with Christian and I can tell you though this CD seems to be as hard as it comes there are better of his CDs. This is probably his 2nd best though. He is a master of trombone and this CD allows students and professionals to 1>Hear a real trombone sound 2>Dicover new peices 2>and also show the trombones possivilities. THIS IS A GREAT CD TO LISTEN TO AND PERFORM ALONG SIDE IN PRACTICE!

Every college trombonist should buy this!,

I recently bought this CD because I played a few of these songs in college and on my senior recital. The best recording is the Vox Gabrieli by Stephan Sulek! Any trombone player from high school and on needs to get this rare CD. It is a good example CD to listen to if a trombone player is stuck on phrasing and breathing for the classic trombone songs featured on the CD. The Hindemith Sonata is also a fantastic collection of songs.

This is a great CD for any trombonist's collection...As was mentioned before, the Blue Bells, Czardas and Hindemith are all first rate. The largest contribution to the very small collection of quality trombone recordings out there, however, is the much overlooked and extremely beautiful Sulek Sonata. The artist does such a first rate job presenting such a wonderful piece of music, it's worth the entire cost of the CD in one track.

I am quite impressed by this recording. Christian Lindberg gives a flawless performance of Flight of the Bumblebee, Bluebells of Scotland, and the Hindemith Sonate. This should be in every trombonist's CD collection.

In my opinion this Cd is a must have. It combines beautiful tone with virtuoso skills. The Cd has songs thought of as not being possible on a trombone, but are played as though they are written purposfully for the trombone. Christian Lindberg is a virtuoso at the trombone and plays these songs as if they were simple exercises. I have let my friends listen to this Cd and they have all been amazed, even if they do not like listening to trombones.I had never heard Flight of The Bumblebee on a trombone before, but when I heard this I was amazed. My favorite song on this Cd is probably Csardas because it starts out slow with many grace notes, which sounds really nice. About two minutes into the song it speeds up into a very fast and lively section which is double tongued.( in other words its really fast!) The Blue Bells of Scotland is another I like because it shows off all the technical possibilities many people did not know the trombone has. This Cd is not entirely just fast songs, it also has several slow songs that are very nice to listen to while on a trip or working on a project. I have a total of four Christian Lindberg Cd's and i think that this Cd is the best.

Mr. Lindberg does well, but the "Flight of the Bumble Bee" is sloppy at the end, and generally mushy articulation. His "Czardas" is highest quality as is the "Blue Bells of Scotland". In general, his tone quality loses a lot in the low register, but is great in the high register. He also does not project too well on the fortissimo passages.

I hated to rate this a 3 stars, because the trombone playing is awesome! However, the selection of music leaves much to be desired, in my opinion. However, 2 of the selections, Flight of the Bumblebee (did he really play the trombone that fast? ), and Blue Bells of Scotland (magnificent!), are so tremendous that any trombone player should buy this CD just for those 2 tracks.

This is a ravishingly diverse album, proving CL's Greatness!,

What I love most of this album is the great diversity of styles created by the different composers of this album. My favorite songs are 1) Blue Bells 2) Csardas 3) Liesbald (or however you spell it) Anyway, I'm playing Blue Bells of Scotland this year for my UIL solo and ensemble competition next spring, and I have found it to be immensely helpful in determining styles, etc. Of course, it is also discouraging knowing somebody could be so much better than me :) Christian Lindberg is truly a fabulous artist! |
