Expensive and utterly failed
on June 2, 2013
I downloaded VLC and also got TidyNet in the bargain, a browser redirector/adware injector. I Googled how to get rid of the malware and Jupiter was high up in the listing, advertising that they could cleanse an infected system. While reading their web page a chat box opened up and an employee offered his help. I explained the situation and asked how much it would cost to which he answered '$29.99'. He got my phone number and called me directly. He said he needed to gain access to my system in order to effect repairs and made three separate attempts to gain access to my desktop but was only marginally successful each time. He did manage to get a program downloaded which he ran. The program said that there were a number of issues (laptop had crashed, there was a virus, the deleted files folder had not been emptied and defrag.exe was missing. He said that he could definitely fix all five (? I only counted four and at least three of them were not an issue to me) problems for me for $150. I declined and then he started negotiating the price. The fact that he didn't know how to establish a reliable shared desktop (something I do fairly regularly so I know that it can be done) and that I could see the 'missing' system file in a file explorer plus the emphasis on negotiating the most money he could get from me lead me to attempt to break the session at that point. He didn't want to let me go and started dropping his price. After saying multiple times that I was hanging up now while he kept trying to keep me on the line longer I finally just got rude and hung up.
I would not recommend anyone ever have anything to do with the company.
