He produced some of the greatest records of the 70s - David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World", "Low" etc, Marc Bolan and T. Rex's superb series of rock n roll singles and, perhaps most enduringly of all, the magnificent "Ghostown" album by Irish group the Radiators, a major influence on the Pogues. Here we get a delightful glimpse of the creativity still left over when the Stars go home. A lovely patchwork of his own life and musical history, Visconti comes across as much, much more than a side man. Give it a go!!

I think the typical assumption one has of a Producer is that of an individual sitting behind glass at the controls of a mixing board. An individual whose sole responsibility is mixing the music, offering a few suggestions and sending the final tapes to market. In Tony's case, he seemed to go beyond that and get involved in the music he helped produce. One listen to T. Rex's "Electric Warrior," or Bowie's "Heroes" confirms this.

I was pleasantly surprised by this disc. I have been a fan of Mr. Visconti's work for several years - most notably his production work with T. Rex, David Bowie and the Moody Blues. At first I thought this collection would be a hodge-podge of outtakes and one-offs that didn't seek to accomplish anything in particular. Tony not only displays a talent for orchestral arrangements, but can also carry a tune!

There are a variety of musical styles on the album (classical, doo wop, country and folk), but there's a nice continuity throughout.

If you're a fan of his work, you will probably like this album. As a big T. Rex fan, I found Tony's treatment of the Tyranosaurus Rex songs "Scenescof" and "Conasuela" to be nice tributes to the late, great Marc Bolan.
