5.0 out of 5 stars Another Fantastic Read
Bronwyn Scott has done it again. Not only does she have amazing historical insight, but she is taking Harlequin Historicals in a fresh new direction! A 5 star book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Satisfactory
To be able to enjoy the book I have to like the characters. I did not particularly care for the hero nor the heroine. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not Satisfactory, March 8, 2009
To be able to enjoy the book I have to like the characters. I did not particularly care for the hero nor the heroine. Though our hero supposedly loves her with a passion, he breaks up with our heroine so that her father can sell her off to a much older man (ugh, ugh, ugh) who is rich enough to save her family. There is no justification nor honor in his actions. I couldn't get over that. I couldn't get over the fact that know that she was a widow he thought it was dandy and okay to pick up where he left of. What was the difference? Our heroine sacrificed her youth, her ideals of perfect love, her broken heart and sorrow to an aging husband, so why should she consider him again, especially since he wouldn't tell her that her father asked him to step aside so that he could sell her to the old suitor? Here we go with the noble patronizing attitude of not telling her the truth. It was for her own good, and naturally, for her family too! If he sold her down the river once, why wouldn't he do it again? Yes, I detested our hero. She deserved better.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Viscount Claims His Bride, May 22, 2010

This review is from: The Viscount Claims His Bride (Harlequin Historical) (Kindle Edition)
Are there proofreaders and editors for romance novels? I enjoy escapist literature, but also want the author to know how to use pronouns correctly, to know the difference between immured and inured as well as imply and infer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Soap Opera Anyone? Misunderstandings, Secrets, etc. Plot Devices, February 23, 2010
I've never been a fan of misunderstandings and secrets to make a plot exciting and this seems to be exactly what Ms. Scott does for The Viscount Cliams His Bride.

You enter the book with a completely in-love couple, the hero and heroine. However, our hero decides on his own to sacrifice their relationship for her family's financial sake. (Although, if you're truly in love, you would try to 1) consult with the person you love before deciding what to do and 2) just be with each other through the hardships.) Anyway, he breaks her heart (and supposedly his too), leaves for 9 years, and comes back to find her a widow. Oh, what luck. At first, I accepted the sacrifice..I can kinda see how it was the "honorable" thing to do during that period of time. However, when he returns to find her a widow and doesn't just outright tell her the truth, I began to smell plot device...it was frustrating. The author uses some excuses in the book to explain why he didn't tell her immediately..puhlease! Then, later when they eventually get together and she gets a letter from our hero's adversary and hides it from the hero, I smell even more plot devices...If the couple loved each other, communication would've been key. It would show trust and devotion. I was a little sick of the soap opera devices used in this book and am surprised others gave it such high ratings.

The Viscount Claims His Bride (Harlequin Historical Series)

I own most of Bronwyn Scott's books and found this to be the best of the lot!
The tale is true to its time in how women were treated, and the action is compelling and believable.
It's a first-rate read, which I highly recommend.
