Vice Grip makes the best locking plier type clamps available. Other brands wear out, don't clamp good, and are of inferior quality.

These are the best plier locking type of clamps I've found. I tried the crescent ones, which wore out pretty quickly. The only problem I've ever had with these is getting weld slag on the clamp tips or screw threads. If the spring breaks, as it will tend to after several years of abuse, it's tricky to replace. I've gotten the replacement springs from my industrial hardware supplier, who probably found something similar and sells them as replacements. So, I'm sure they can be found at any good hardware store.

They sell several different versions of this same thing, smaller, longer arms, pivioting tips...

I believe this is mostly a welders tool for clamping pieces together, but I happened to use it for a wholly different purpose - removing a wheel bearing cap, and it did the job. It even stood up to repeated blows from a small 4lb sledge hammer while removing the cap.

These were recommended by a senior mechanic where I work. It is a very good product that does exactly what it is designed to do. I plan to purchase more as finances permit. You just can't go wrong with the Vise Grip brand Locking C-Clamp.

This is the best tool for tempory clamping of items to be welded drilled,or bonded up to 5" across clamped area.

...I would like to find spring kits for my six pair I use all the time at my work I have not been able to find a dealer in Phoenix who carries the springs. Any help welcome.

These little clamps will work their heart out for you and then some. The handfull I own have taken a pounding day in and day out on the commercial construction site installing metal studs. 15 years of repeated use (and a fair share of abuse) and these clamps continue to work like they were a year old. As tempting as it is to go the cheap route and purchase a Chinese knockoff or other variant, you'll quickly be reminded to stick with the original. I'd buy another handfull of the VG-6R tomorrow if I had to.

I am really disappointed with this item, as it said it was a really good metal C Clamp and I wanted one that I could clamp pieces of plywood and lie them on the floor. A lot of clamps don't operate like this. Immediately before taking the item out of the package, I broke both of them (got two because you need two, one on each end of the piece. I opened the handle right away and the piece came out from its spring and will never go back in. I bought this because it looked like the same construction as the vise grip wrench I had for 20 years, but obviously the manufacturer has cut corners and made a defective item. The tooth (I am not sure what the piece is called)but it's supposed to stay behind the screw bolt so it when the handle is open it doesn't fall out, but the bevel shape of this tooth does not stay because it is beveled in the wrong direction. I really wish I could return them both but like I said I opened both the packages when testing each one and they both don't work. I will email the customer service and see if they will take it back or not and let you know.
