Product Description

Size: Medium

The Vision Medium Bird Cage #M01 is a suitable cage for budgies, canaries, lovebirds and finches. It provides your bird with lots of room to move around and Vision makes it easy for you to take care of your bird. Bird movements cause air currents, which flow outwards, and in the case of most standard bird cages these air currents eject waste and seed debris outside of the cage and onto the floor. With Vision Cages, the combination of the debris guard, the deep base and the placement of the seed/water cups helps combat air currents to keep the majority of the waste and debris inside the cage. This reduces the amount of mess and time-consuming clean ups, leaving you more time to enjoy your pet. The Vision Medium Bird Cage is a great home for your new bird.

After reading as many reviews as I could get my hands on I decided to purchase this cage. We are using it to house two Gold-Breasted Waxbills. What I couldn't find were many reviews on using this cage for finches and so I thought I would add our experiences for those looking for a cage for finch or waxbills.

Some of the other reviews were negative based on the guage of wire that the bars are made of. Using this cage for finches I don't see any problems with the guage of wire used. The M01 model is very sturdy when put together. If you are using the cage for hooked bills and worried about the guage of wire then spend the $10 extra and get the M11. The M11 is the same cage with thicker guage wire for the bars, then problem solved.

Others complained about this cage being difficult to clean. I really don't understand this. My soon to be 5 year old son was able to clean the cage very easily. In fact, of all the cages I have owned over many years of having finches this is by far the easiest to clean. All you do is release the latches and set the upper part of the cage on a towel while you clean the tray, grate and dishes. Reline the bottom with newspaper, replace the grate and put the top back on the bottom and latch. This is a 15 minute or less job. You can also remove the included perches, from the outside of the cage, and clean them. I really like the way the cage is designed for cleaning!

As far as the cage helping to stop the seed outside the cage mess, this is spot on. I have tried the plastic guards for other cages and nothing really worked. This cage is in our living room and I haven't seen any seed or feathers spread outside the cage. As long as you use the lower food and water dishes everything stays in the cage making the birds easy to care for.

I own 8 Vision bird cages. The M01 is perfect for a single parakeet. These cages are light and easy to clean. The design directs debris to stay inside the cage. The bars are perfect for climbing. A snap to assemble.

We bought this cage because we needed a small cage to sometimes segregate our cockatiels. We have one cockatiel who sometimes beats up on another, and we have to separate him - this cage works well for a few days, but it's no longer than that because it will mess up their tail feathers. I've owned parakeets and cockatiels for years, and a ton of different cages, and this is by far the best. The only con is that the perches are not the sturdiest, and when you try to replace it with another studier perch that is not a Hagen/Vision perch, you can easily bend the cage bars. As for the previous poster - I'm 9 months pregnant and have cleaned this cage dozens of times during the course of my pregnancy, by myself, without any difficulty. I snap off the sides, lift the cage - usually with the birds still sitting on the perches - and set the top portion of the cage down on a cloth/towel/newspaper on a flat surface next to the base. I then take the base, remove the toys and bowls, remove the bottom bars/mesh, and dump out the litter. If I have to, I use "Poop Off" spray and wipe off the plastic base and the mesh. What's so difficult about that?

Reason for buying: A larger cage for my budgie (parakeet)
Cost: I bought it for around $62. This is a considerably better price than at large chain pet stores and local bird specialty stores in the area
Accepting Bird Care Items: The cage utilizes typically spaced bars for a budgie cage and easily accepts my rope perches, natural wood perches and interactive toys.

Features:
- Easy assembly. It came with very detailed instructions and simple picture directions. I utilized the simple directions. It comes as individual sides that snap together. Very straight forward. It is sturdy after being assembled.
- Snap-Off Bottom. This cage utilizes two snap closures to secure the cage to the base. Each is sturdy. This allows you to easily lift the cage off the bottom, the wire grate off and clean the entirety of the cage bottom. Having owned both the "snap-off" cage and the typical "drawer" style cages that are far more common - this one is much, much easier to clean. One can simply dump the contents out and spray it down, getting all the corners easily. I prefer this style.
- Food Doors. On either side at the bottom of the cage are doors to slide the bowls in. Easily accessible. A nice feature.
- Protective "roofs" on over each food bowl. There are slanted, plastic roofs that cover the bowls preventing the bird's droppings from contaminating it's food. This is especially useful if you free feed pellets as I do.
- Hinged doors. The guillotine style doors that are typically on cages are very unsafe and can easily injure a bird. These doors swing both out and in on hinges only and do not drop. A nice feature is also the doors swinging inward and stopping at the exact same level - thus forming a landing platform to allow the bird to easily fly in and out of the cage.

The debris guard really separates this cage from other bird cages I've researched before buying. I have my society finches inside my room most of the day and there's little to NO debris of seed shells or feathers outside of the cage anymore. It saves so much cleaning time, I love it. The side doors to get to the food and water bowls are great too! I can change the food and water with ease and little stress to my finches.

As for cleaning the actual cage itself, I've heard from other people that cleaning without a drawer like other bird cages seems difficult. Especially with birds that don't like to be handled and taken out of their cage. I have society finches, so I personally thought it would be difficult without a drawer at first. Yet I found cleaning simple after I found a little trick you can do with this cage. If you ever look at how this cage is separated from it's base (the base is really what needs cleaning), you'll notice that the base tray can be removed from the rest of the cage (Note: The separation occurs between the debris guard and the base tray, so the debris guard is connected to the rest of the cage and not the base tray). This leaves it wide open for birds to escape! So, what you can do is just slip a large enough piece of cardboard or newspaper in between the tray and the upper part of the cage to prevent little birds from escaping. Then just take the base tray away to clean all you want while your birds sit in the rest of their cage with the cardboard or newspaper as their floor to protect your floor from droppings! Since you can do this, I'd say cleaning the dirtiest part of the cage is easy!

PROS:
1. The debris guard really does keep most if not all of the debris your bird may throw out of its cage inside!
