5.0 out of 5 stars A Cage That Actually Works As Advertised
After reading as many reviews as I could get my hands on I decided to purchase this cage. We are using it to house two Gold-Breasted Waxbills. What I couldn't find were many reviews on using this cage for finches and so I thought I would add our experiences for those looking for a cage for finch or waxbills.

3.0 out of 5 stars First Cage, Still looking
The cage is really great at keeping everything inside. However, the latches on the door are big and square in the middle of the front panel, it's hard to see my pretty bird! Also this one doesn't have a fast way to change out the paper used to collect waste. I never use the little food doors, but I don't have an escape artist to worry about. Seems like it was...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Cage That Actually Works As Advertised, October 26, 2011

This review is from: Vision Bird Cage Model M01 - Medium (Misc.)
After reading as many reviews as I could get my hands on I decided to purchase this cage. We are using it to house two Gold-Breasted Waxbills. What I couldn't find were many reviews on using this cage for finches and so I thought I would add our experiences for those looking for a cage for finch or waxbills.

Some of the other reviews were negative based on the guage of wire that the bars are made of. Using this cage for finches I don't see any problems with the guage of wire used. The M01 model is very sturdy when put together. If you are using the cage for hooked bills and worried about the guage of wire then spend the $10 extra and get the M11. The M11 is the same cage with thicker guage wire for the bars, then problem solved.

Others complained about this cage being difficult to clean. I really don't understand this. My soon to be 5 year old son was able to clean the cage very easily. In fact, of all the cages I have owned over many years of having finches this is by far the easiest to clean. All you do is release the latches and set the upper part of the cage on a towel while you clean the tray, grate and dishes. Reline the bottom with newspaper, replace the grate and put the top back on the bottom and latch. This is a 15 minute or less job. You can also remove the included perches, from the outside of the cage, and clean them. I really like the way the cage is designed for cleaning!

As far as the cage helping to stop the seed outside the cage mess, this is spot on. I have tried the plastic guards for other cages and nothing really worked. This cage is in our living room and I haven't seen any seed or feathers spread outside the cage. As long as you use the lower food and water dishes everything stays in the cage making the birds easy to care for. If you were to use additional food dishes attached higher in the cage then seed would still be able to be spread outside the cage.

The food and water acess doors are very helpful in keeping the water and food fresh. My son can easily access each and cleans and refills them daily. The doors also latch with a turning catch which makes it more secure and less likely that the birds can escape.

This cage is easily a 5 rated cage. You can't go wrong getting it for finches. If you have breeds that don't like to bottom feed then it could cause difficulty. Also, it's not really big enough for any more then one pair of finches and if used for breeding pairs once the babies are weenied they would need to be removed.

The only complaint I have about this cage and it really isn't against the cage at all is that it is hard to find additional perches online or in pet stores. I haven't been able to find the shorter perches listed in the accessories catalog that came with the cage and very few online shops sell the longer perches. It would be helpful if these were more readily available as they are easy to clean and work well with the cage.

If your looking for a cage that will reduce the mess around the cage, is easy to clean and not over-priced then this is a great cage for finches. Amazon has the best price with the super saver shipping of any of the online stores and at the current $63 is about $20 plus cheaper then the local big pet stores.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vision Bird Cage, June 23, 2011

I LOVE this cage. When I first was putting this cage together I could see why people said that the wire was flimsy. Once I put it together it seemed much more sturdy and I no longer had any concern. We have a canary and it seems to work perfectly for him. Cleaning the cage is a breeze. I love how the top comes off and you can clean the cage without stressing the bird out. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

I own 8 Vision bird cages. The M01 is perfect for a single parakeet. These cages are light and easy to clean. The design directs debris to stay inside the cage. The bars are perfect for climbing. A snap to assemble.

4.0 out of 5 stars Acceptable cage, but needs additional work, October 20, 2010
This review is from: Vision Bird Cage Model M01 - Medium (Misc.)
Picked this cage up from the pet store while purchasing two parakeets since it was the best-looking and reasonably-sized cage for what they had available (probably a dozen cages). Was disappointed while assembling it, the wire sections are thin and the edges don't latch together, leaving gaps if not fixed. The plastic top feels thin and filmsy, but the bottom does feel slightly more solid with the canopy. Basic thought was to keep the box figuring that if I saw something better via online, I'd return this cage.

I used zip ties to secure the wire frame sections (three at each corner) and installed cheap mountable feeder trays to replace the green trays that sit at the bottom. The green trays were useless and the parakeets did their business in them constantly. The cage is not difficult to clean (my daughter's assignment) since it is light, and extra perches (square wood sticks from any hardware store) are easy to add. With the upgrades the cage looks and functions well enough that I've decided to keep it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, February 23, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vision Bird Cage Model M01 - Medium (Misc.)
Reason for buying: A larger cage for my budgie (parakeet)
Cost: I bought it for around $62. This is a considerably better price than at large chain pet stores and local bird specialty stores in the area
Accepting Bird Care Items: The cage utilizes typically spaced bars for a budgie cage and easily accepts my rope perches, natural wood perches and interactive toys.

Features:
- Easy assembly. It came with very detailed instructions and simple picture directions. I utilized the simple directions. It comes as individual sides that snap together. Very straight forward. It is sturdy after being assembled.
- Snap-Off Bottom. This cage utilizes two snap closures to secure the cage to the base. Each is sturdy. This allows you to easily lift the cage off the bottom, the wire grate off and clean the entirety of the cage bottom. Having owned both the "snap-off" cage and the typical "drawer" style cages that are far more common - this one is much, much easier to clean. One can simply dump the contents out and spray it down, getting all the corners easily. I prefer this style.
- Food Doors. On either side at the bottom of the cage are doors to slide the bowls in. Easily accessible. A nice feature.
- Protective "roofs" on over each food bowl. There are slanted, plastic roofs that cover the bowls preventing the bird's droppings from contaminating it's food. This is especially useful if you free feed pellets as I do.
- Hinged doors. The guillotine style doors that are typically on cages are very unsafe and can easily injure a bird. These doors swing both out and in on hinges only and do not drop. A nice feature is also the doors swinging inward and stopping at the exact same level - thus forming a landing platform to allow the bird to easily fly in and out of the cage. I have never seen this feature on another cage and I (and my bird) love it. The doors are directly next to each other allowing you to open both and have a very wide door to slide larger perches, bird baths, etc into the cage that would not fit through the typical bird cage door.
- Bar Spacing. This model has an excellent spacing for budgies. Easy for my budgie to climb however close enough together to prevent ensnarement.
- Accessories. The cage comes with two perches and two food bowls (each bowl is subdivided into two). The perches are varied in size from tip to tip adding variety to the perches in the cage which is advised for budgies. The "Vision" cages also have various accessories meant to fit the cage (and most other wire cages) specifically. Depending on what you want in your cage this may be an added advantage to you. I personally like most of the accessories that can go with the cage however it does not effect the quality of cage but may effect the cage in the future.

This cage is very easy to keep clean and there's plenty of room for our two parakeets. We purchased both the cage and the stand and the set up looks very nice in our family room.

4.0 out of 5 stars Attractive - for a bird cage, October 28, 2011

This review is from: Vision Bird Cage Model M01 - Medium (Misc.)
We have had a love bird for a few years and finally decided it was time to get it a larger cage. The size of this cage is perfect - small enough to carry from room to room and large enough for the bird to spread its wings. It is also very easy to clean and would work very well for birds that are best left in the cage while cleaning. That isn't an issue with our love bird because it doesn't stay in its cage 100% of the time.
The only negative, with our bird at least, is the clear plastic section at the bottom that the bird must navigate down to get to the food and water trays. The bird would hold on to the very last wire on the cage and kind of drop down to the bottom and didn't like that one bit. The problem was fixed by placing a stick/perch at an angle with one end on the last wire and the other resting by the food tray. The stick allows the bird to walk down to the food tray.
Overall, it was a good decision to purchase this cage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic cage!, October 31, 2010

Have had this cage for about 6 months now. Had no problem putting it together, everything fit tight and secure. Great size for a budgie, plus we can still move the cage around the house easily,( to take him outdoors or to another room). We switched the perches to a few different natural branches, and added multiple toys. It is quick and easy to clean. The covers that fit over the top of the food and water dish keep them clean as well. I purchased the whole starter kit so it also came with the paper covering for the bottom. It is a green leafy colour so it brightens up the cage. It is more of a thin coated cardboard so it too is easy to wipe clean, and you can use it for months. Another bonus is how it keeps feathers and seed inside the cage, so you don't always have a mess to clean up. Wish it was more of a natural colour , other than the white, but other than that I love the cage!

A great value and came recommended from a friend who has it as well. The size is good for our small apartment, and it's lightweight and easy to handle, clean, etc. The only negative I've experienced to date is that the metal grates of the cage feel a little flimsy, and the perches that lock in are thus a little wobbly. The doors also can be somewhat noisy when opening which tends to frighten our new bird a bit, but overall we all like the cage.
