According to Lebrecht, Mahler is the greatest composer at year 2000,as well as Beethoven was at 1900. It is still a personal view, but may be estathistics could support it.
As for myself, Mahler is indeed a brain opener and an adventurer inside the woods of soul, the most metaphysical of all composers. I worship him since childhood.
Well, Ressurrection is the most mysthic of his symphonies, and Byshkov interpetation is outstanding, deserving doubtless to join two handful best recordings ever done from this work.
The price of this item is good, with two CDs for audio as bonus perhaps intended to those who could not bear the boring images from DVD.
The psychodelic celestial corpses(sic)that move as in an "ethereal"dance according to the gorgeous sound achieves an ambitious "theologic"overdose ,towards a "cosmic ballet", watched by an audience equiped with special 3 dimension childish glasses.
Unavoidable is the deception of not seeing Byshkov good conducting, which could at least be given as an alternative DVD instead of the bonus CDs.
Flávio J Morsch; Santa Cruz do Sul, Brazil
