Editorial Reviews

Time Off Magazine

"We Got This!...from the outset this umpteenth incarnation of the band really kicks."

Younger's expressions are dark and wry as ever, explosive guitars and drums are crisp, clear, up front and centre.

The album I've played most the past few months, hypnotized by its sullen lyrics and the most sparkling guitar. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

Product Description

Should history dictate that this really is The New Christs' last will and testament, then be thankful. The new fifteen-track album is as uncompromising as would be expected by those who have followed the band's career these past twenty plus years - perhaps more so. A venerable list of today's garage rock contenders - The Hellacopters, The Hives, The BellRays and the newest group to join the fray, The Datsuns - all respectfully acknowledge the immense influence of Rob Younger, The New Christs' vocalist. Younger first used The New Christs name in 1980, just two years after the demise of his previous outfit, Radio Birdman, unquestionably one of Australia's greatest bands.

Bad luck may have hindered both bands during their careers, but, despite that, near-legendary status has been heaped on the small body of recorded work Radio Birdman left behind. Similarly, Distemper, The New Christs' debut album is widely hailed as one of the best Australian rock albums. Radio Birdman recently reformed for a series of sold-out live shows in Australia and is rumored to have both U.S. and European tour dates in the works for 2003.

Perhaps 'We Got This! will finally and deservedly see The New Christs reap similar attention. Younger's principal live and recording vehicle, The New Christs, has seen some of Australia's best 'underground' musicians pass through its ranks. This includes members of The Hoodoo Gurus, The Celibate Rifles, The Lime Spiders, Died Pretty, The Screaming Tribesmen, The Someloves, The Saints and The Eastern Dark. Younger also fronted New Race, a short-lived supergroup featuring ex-Birdman bassist Warwick Gilbert, ex-Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton and ex-MC5 drummer Dennis Thompson.

As purveyors of intense, high-powered, melodic rock 'n' roll, The New Christs have always been hard to beat and, if We Got This! is to be the band's swan song, then they're undoubtedly quitting while they're ahead. Whatever the outcome, it is certain that there will be more to come from Rob Younger. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

WOW,WHAT A GREAT ALBUM.IF YOU LIKE EARLY BLACK SABBATH THEN THIS ONE'S FOR YOU.A SOLIDLY PLAYED AND RECORDED ALBUM THROUGHOUT WITH PRETTY GOOD SONGWRITING TOO.WELL PRODUCED WITH GOOD,CLEAN,WELL SEPERATED SOUND...GOOD HEADPHONE ALBUM.I'M NOT OVERLY FAMILIAR WITH THESE GUYS OTHER THAN WINO IS ON THIS RECORD AND HE'S BEEN AROUND AWHILE...THIS GENRE OF MUSIC IS PRETTY MUCH UNDERGROUND AND SO YOU HAVE TO DIG A LITTLE TO COME UP WITH GEMS LIKE THESE...VERY "HEAVY",70'S RETRO KIND OF FEEL...RECOMMENDED ALONG WITH ANOTHER OF THEIR CDS CALLED "THE BLACK IS NEVER FAR".I GAVE THIS A FOUR AND ONE HALF STAR RATING BECAUSE OF A COUPLE OF INSTRUMENTALS ON THE DISC WHICH I DON'T CARE FOR ALSO THE SOLOS ARE A LITTLE FAR BACK IN THE MIX FOR MY TASTE...LIGHT ONE UP AND ENJOY...........

5.0 out of 5 stars great stuff!, November 21, 2009
This review is from: With Vision (MP3 Download)
This album is fronted by the underground metal legend Wino of the Saint Vitus and the Obsessed. He hooked up up with Victor Griffin of Pentagram for this one album. This most impressive album was greatly under appreciated as much of Wino's music is. It is one of the best heavy albums I have ever listened to. The combination of Wino and Griffin were undeniable in this release. Place of Skull's "With Vision" has a powerful dark sound to to it that grooves. The riffs work along with the dark feeling conveyed that is both heavy and inspirational at the same time. Wino did this album but then left to form The Hidden Hand. I got into Wino's Hidden Hand, but even that great band did not equal this one. In my opinion this was Wino's best stuff. If your into classic doom metal you will be impressed. My jaw dropped when I first listened to this...
