4.0 out of 5 stars Great product at an excellent price
Bought the 5800USB at a discount store for $23.00. It was missing the power supply - I called Visioneer's toll-free number and they 1. were very pleasant and professional and 2. shipped one out FREE that day.

It installed easily on Windows 2000 by popping in the included CD(ScanSoft PaperPort Deluxe 7, and I only installed PaperPort, nothing else). It has worked...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a great scanner just ok
I've had this scanner for just a little over 2 years. After the first year I developed a problem with the power supply cable connection in the back of this unit. The scanner's power supply cable unit in the back became loose and it would not recognize that the power supply cable was actually connected to it. I ended up having to hold the power cable into the power...

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk, May 23, 2006
This review is from: Visioneer 5800USB Flatbed Scanner (Office Product)
There is no Tech Support for the 5800/5820 scanners. They are the most worthless pieces of junk ever to be assembled. I would not buy this crap if it was being sold for a dollar. The Windows XP drivers are corrupt and Tech support does not answer their phones. When they actually do answer the phone they put you on hold for hours. Most likely because they have an unending stream of furious customers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a great scanner just ok, April 3, 2005
This review is from: Visioneer 5800USB Flatbed Scanner (Office Product)
I've had this scanner for just a little over 2 years. After the first year I developed a problem with the power supply cable connection in the back of this unit. The scanner's power supply cable unit in the back became loose and it would not recognize that the power supply cable was actually connected to it. I ended up having to hold the power cable into the power socket for it to recognize its own power supply cable. I then had problems with the usb cable. The usb cable is directly attached to the back of the unit which cannot be replaced. For some reason or another it failed to work correctly by not recognizing that it was plugged into my computers usb socket. I would have to play with the usb cable itself in order for my computer to recognize that it was connected to my computer. It finally stopped recognizing that I had it plug into my usb outlet on my computer. I think that the wiring inside of this scanners usb cable may have become frayed, due to poor quality. After having so much trouble with the cables and then the last issue with the usb connection, I gave up on it and have sent it to a better place- the trash can.

It has worked flawlessly - the 2400x2400 dpi is a bit much for my little 256mb of memory, but other than that the quality is good* and I'm very happy about the product and its price.

* My old scanner (stress on OLD) was a piece of junk - I know there are really great ones out there that are much more expensive. This one does the job for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Scanner, May 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Visioneer 5800USB Flatbed Scanner (Office Product)
...Works great on XP.
Before I installed I downloaded the latest drivers from Visioneer. Then I installed software. During software installation it prompts you to plug in the scanner. No problems there.
The one touch software takes a little time to set up. I always use the configure before I scan option (or I just use the paperport software). I like to make sure that my settings are always right for what I'm scanning.
The 5800 does not scan negative prints. But the 5820 does.
Overall I think this is a good scanner with good quality at a great price (especially if you get it with a rebate).

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Simple to Use, August 6, 2011
This review is from: Visioneer 5800USB Flatbed Scanner (Office Product)
I love how easy it is to copy with this scanner - it's great to have push button features that work! While it doesn't have an automatic feeder, I do really like the speed of scanning, and the PaperPort software is my personal choice for ease of use and organizing easily. I have used the Textbrindge software, and it will save me time on working with documents. For a basic flatbed without a high cost, I love this unit!

5.0 out of 5 stars good scanner, December 12, 2007
This review is from: Visioneer 5800USB Flatbed Scanner (Office Product)
I have this scanner for several years and I never had any problem with, I just saw a review that it does not work with xp its not true. I wouldn't buy this scanner based on this bad review, I hate seeing people who just like to complain, its a good scanner its not fair for visionner to have this kind of impression.

1.0 out of 5 stars SCAM, November 4, 2004
This review is from: Visioneer 5800USB Flatbed Scanner (Office Product)
This product receives an "F". No tech support. Updated
drivers do not work. Spent time installing & uninstalling.
Got mine from Gateway computer package purchase.
Will not suggest you get one. It worked a couple of times
til this "Unlock" error came up. I have XP OS and it is supposed
to be compatible. What a rip off! If you see one on sale,
(5800 0r 5820 Visioneer) RUN AWAY!!FAST!! I have a Microtek
ScanMaker X6 - it works alot better.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT INEXPENSIVE SCANNER!!!, May 14, 2004

The two star rating on this scanner got my attention!! I've used the Visioneer 5800 USB with Paperport software for three years, and I've never had a problem. It's simple to operate, makes terrific scans of not only papers, pictures, etc., but also objects, such as coins, pocket knives, and other such items. For the cost, ease of operation, & quality of copies & scans, I don't see how it can be beat!! I give it a 5 star all the way!!!

This is the best scanner that I have ever owned. How can it only get 2 stars?? I use this piece of equipment every day, and have never been left wanting. Even though it was an inexpensive scanner to buy, I have never been sorry.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Help from Manufacturer, January 8, 2003
By
Mildred Peck (Silver City, NM) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Visioneer 5800USB Flatbed Scanner (Office Product)
I get no e-mail nor toll free support. Received a Xmas gift, and trying to install it several times -- logo comes up on task bar w/red X meaning it cannot connect. I learned that this scanner has problems installing with Windows 98 second edition under certain conditions (AMD processor, certain USB ports, etc.). Why isn't this noted somewhere on the box, or at least on inside instructions. Too, installation instructions I got on internet did not correspond w/Adobe accrobat instructions, & the latter had totally blacked the illustrations which could have been of some help. Scanner still not installed & "Sara" understands nothing I ask about.
