5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, visual tour of a classic country!
This video is a delightful visual journey through one of the magical lands of history. Wonderful images and tasteful music accompany a tour through some of the most beautiful spots in Greece. 3.0 out of 5 stars Visions of Greece
We are traveling to the islands of Greece and to Athens this coming September and wanted a sneak peek at what we had coming. I don't think it is as good as the Visions of Italy production but all-in-all I enjoyed watching it. It was a bit of a let-down after the Italian series. The narrator wasn't as interesting and the music was not as good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Views of Greece, August 12, 2005
This review is from: Visions of Greece (DVD)
Travelogues are outdated in an era of frequent, fast and relatively inexpensive travel. But if you want to see a new, extraordinary vision of one of the most photographed countries in the world, you will be entralled with this spectacular DVD, Visions of Greece.

This beautiful DVD is filled with sensational aerial video of Greece's well-known antiquities, frequented tourist islands plus the lesser traveled areas of the country, delivered with an intelligent, and often poetic narrative by a distinctive Greek voice.

Over the years, I have made over a dozen journeys, pilgrimages, and hedonistic trips to this glorious country, and seen far more of its beauty than most travelers. Yet seeing this DVD inspired me to plan a return, to experience Greece as we both are now.

This DVD would make an excellent gift or a treasured reminder of the glories of this extraordinary country.

Fantastic photography, fine editing, great music, and distinctive narration all create one of the best travel DVDs I have ever seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT aerial footages of Greece, July 6, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Visions of Greece (DVD)
More than 3 hours you see excellent aerial footages of Greece!
Be aware that the DVD shows the footages in widescreen 16:9.
Sometimes they show the name of the place below in the
footage for some seconds. The picture quality is excellent!
It's a MUST for every collector of aerial geography.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Beauty of Greece, August 9, 2006
This review is from: Visions of Greece (DVD)
Aerial views transport you to another world where the sapphire blue of the Aegean sea is hypnotizing in beauty. The ever-changing rugged beauty of the landscape keeps you highly entertained as you view castles perched atop beautiful mountains and sailboats skimming through liquid playgrounds. Densely populated areas contrast with sparsely populated lands where horses run wild through the marshlands. Lushly forested gorges contrast with the barren snow dusted mountains.

Limestone pillars rise unexpectedly from the landscape and one monastery looks like it is glued to the side of the mountain in such a way that it is almost part of the mountain. Perhaps the most intriguing part of viewing this DVD is the sections where they show the monasteries. These sanctuaries are nestled far above the daily humdrum of life and look like places of beauty and comfort.

The DVD begins in the morning and seems to progress throughout a day. At first you see sun drenched landscapes that appear to be completely devoid of human interactions. Perhaps so early in the morning, everyone is still asleep. Then as the day progresses you see people wandering around historical sites or playing at beaches. As sunset turns the waves silvery pink, night falls and you may feel a sense of nostalgia for something intangible. People from the cities gather to watch the sunset and there is a strong sense of community and appreciation for what truly matters in life.

There are two main sections. One is narrated; the other can just be enjoyed for the beauty of the islands. If you are looking for specific travel destinations or to explore ruins, you will only see the land from an aerial view without any detailed information about various locations. The Acropolis is shown as well as many restored temples. What is very interesting is the vastness of the area being explored and the ways in which people live.

This was fun to watch while I was making Greek Chicken-Lemon Soup. Good thing I had purchased some Greek Oregano - the difference in the taste is enlightening. The one thing you won't find on this DVD is Greek Cooking and that is one very good reason to visit Greece!

5.0 out of 5 stars Feel like a bird over beautiful Greece., January 12, 2007

When I recently visited Greece, and in particular the island of Tinos, which like most Cycladic islands, is mountainous, I wished to be one of the doves that fly in and out of the valleys and ravines. Watching this video is the next best thing. You can barely tell that you are in a helicopter. The scenes are mesmerizing, the photography grand. Though in the air, you can see amazing detail. From modern Athens, to ancient ruins, to cities in the mountainous north (like Kavala), to the white-washed "stacked" houses on the Cycladic islands - by the end of "Visions of Greece," you're awed by the rich and varied landscape of this relatively small country. The blue-ness of the Aegean sea is so attractive and inviting. Seeing ancient ruins from the air gives a whole new appreciation of the scale and complexity of these classic Greek remenants. This production is a must see, whether you have already visited Greece or not - and especially if you are planning to. It could well help you make your itinerary (but, you may end up wanting to be there an extra week).

This video is to enjoy the scenery, abstractly. If you are looking for a narrated, guided tour of Greece, this will not help. One part is somewhat narrated, the rest is to background music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just one thing could have made it even better!, April 7, 2007
This review is from: Visions of Greece (DVD)
I thought this DVD was wonderful. The photography was top-notch and the beauty of Greece was so evident. I would like to point out that the whole program is shown from the perspective of one up in the sky; it is photographed from a helicopter. That made for some very grand shots, sweeping over the water and the islands. However, I would like to have seen some photography from the ground included; after all, that is the way most of us visit Greece, isn't it? Otherwise, I can't say enough about the quality of this DVD.

At the outset, I will admit that I am a philhelene. Nor do I make any apologies for this fact. I absolutely love the ancient Greeks and have always wanted to visit the country. I may or not ever get the chance to do that, but thanks to this video I have a good impression of the topography of Hellas as well as a nice visual of many of the main attractions.

A female narrator guides us through the Greek isles as well as the Grecian mainland on a helicopter tour. All of the days they chose for filming were chamber-of-commerce like gorgeous & sunny days. The beauty of Greece is absolutely breath-taking. The soundtrack is very soothing.

There is one small criticism I have, but it is minor. I would have liked to have seen a flyover of ancient Sparta. I realize there is precious little left of Sparta, but a brief flyover would have still been nice. Again, however, this omission is certainly no reason not to buy the DVD.

Be sure to look at the special features as there is about 1/2 hour of additional footage w/out narration. If you're looking for a visual documentary of the country of Greece, you have found it here!
