Author Charles E. Jarvis was a personal friend and contemporary of Jack Kerouac. They grew up together in the ethnic tapestry to Lowell, Massachusetts, and attended the same high school. Visions of Kerouac contains reminiscences of a shared childhood, of shared haunts, of shared experiences. It examines how the city of Lowell and its environs, including the Merrimack River, influenced Kerouac's intensely autobiographical writings.
