easily one the best singers out today. I like the way his album is very diverse yet consistent. He had a wonderful voice and a black metal voice, he can switch back and forth very easily and it sounds great. The songs are epic sounding and very solid. I suggest you also check out borknagar's latest release called empiricism. It freatures ol vintersorg on vocals, he is their new singer.

This was the first Vintersorg album I've heard and it is still his finest offering. From the intro track to the very last song I am absolutely amazed. I have definately not heard metal done this way before. Every song is brilliant, the melodies are beautiful, and Vintersorg's excellent vocal dubbing is like nothing else I've heard before. Nearly every track is a tecnical marvel that blends intricate arrangements and catchy chorus parts. A masterpiece. Buy it!

A more electronic feel.,

Vintersorg is slowly moving away from their viking/folk metal style and into a more "space rock?" kind of feel. The addition of a lot of synths/keyboards and some electronic beeps especially in "A Star-Guided Coronation." That doesn't make it bad or anything, but it's something new to get used to, and you may or may not like it. There are still some folky elements, still some growled vocals, and Vintersorg's clean vocals are top notch. Most of the songs have a comfortable level of aggressiveness and good vocal melodies and choruses. The lyrics talk about celestial bodies and other galaxies and that sort of thing. About half the songs are sung in Swedish, which i really enjoy because it seems to add more of an atmosphere. Some of my favorite tracks are "Vem Styr Symmetrin," "ESP Mirage," and especially "Spegelsfären" which starts out calm, explodes into a pulsating growling section layered with the hammond and transcends into a lush Swedish sonic landscape. This is a great place to start with for new Vintersorg fans, although might not be the absolute best, and good for old time fans too.

I've had "Visions" for a while now, and listened to it only seldom. In my opinion, this CD lacks the power and depth of past albums, including the brilliant "Cosmic Genesis." There are a few songs on "Visions" that stand out, most notably the excellent "ESP Mirage." However, most of the CD is uninteresting, though technically proficient. Vintersorg's voice is still excellent, though there are no tracks here that show it off to maximal effect, like "A Dialoge With the Stars" did on "Cosmic Genesis." I have heard from others that the album is a grower, but I still say try before you buy. It is a decent album, but not excellent by any means. Do yourself a favor and pick up "Cosmic Genesis" or any of his past Swedish albums ("Till Fjalls, etc.).

A Good Viking Metal Album,

Vintersorg's 'Visions From the Spiral Generator' is a diversely addictive album. The mixture of black metal vocals and riffs with traditional Viking metal makes this album a very interesting listen. When you first listen to this record it feels as though there is no substance to it, but eventually you will begin to feel the power of Vintersorg. It took me a while to enjoy this album, and a lot of the "clean" vocals I can't stand - they sound like a mix between power metal and symphonic metal but terribly irritating. Though I have to give them credit, Vintersorg (vocals) has a great black metal growl (and I use that term as lightly as possible) that I personally enjoy. The instrumental parts on the album go from the boring to the brutal to the technical, but can sometimes be tediously long (not in the good way). The keyboards are not as good as they were in their earlier albums, and are a lot more prevalent. 'Visions From the Spiral Generator' does have a lot of good black metal riffing and some solid drumming; they give the album a lot of the power that it has. But again, the "clean" vocals are very irritating, they just bother me in most of the parts. To rate this album was kind of hard; a lot of the songs were half good and half bad, it was just a weird experience having to skip around on almost EVERY track on the album. My personal favorites are "Universums Dunkla Alfabet", "Spegelsparen", and "Star-Guarded Coronation" (though it is a ballad type song with no black vocals, it is such a great song). Vintersorg's 'Vision From the Spiral Generator' is an album that is for hardcore Viking metal and folk metal fans, but nothing really out of the sphere of interest. I do enjoy listening to it occasionally, I do not regret buying it, but it can be very irritating in some parts. It may not be Storm (my favorite folk metal band), but Vintersorg and his fellow musicians do put out some solid music that is great for an occasional listen.
