3.0 out of 5 stars Not What I Was Expectin, January 14, 2005
By Lord Reveal (Bronx, New York) - See all my reviews
Fist of all, this isn't really a Poppa Wu album. For those who don't know, Poppa Wu is not a rapper. He is an elder who is conidered the mentor of the Wu-Tang Clan (hence the name Poppa Wu). Some call him Freedom. He saw most of the Wu Clan grow before his very eyes. He first appeared on Raekwon's ONLY BUILT 4 CUBAN LINX on the bonus track ("North Star" aka "Jewels") having a conversation with Raekwon on the intro. He then appeared on Ghostface Killah's IRONMAN (in the begining of "Black Jesus" and at the end of "All That I've Got IS You" featuring Mary J. Blige) and on Wu-Tang's sophomore LP, WU-TANG FOREVER ("Wu-Revolution"). Poppa Wu is also responsible for the involvement of Wu-Tang's core members in The Nation Of Gods & Earths aka The 5 Percenters. However, I thought that this album was gonna feature Poppa Wu teaching or enlightening listeners on his views with appearances from Wu-Tang MC's. When I popped the disc in, I got something different (not necesarilly bad). A few voices were familiar or recognizable (Method Man, ODB, Black Knights, North Star, Buddha Monk, Brooklyn Zoo, La The Darkman, King Just) and others were not, such as Manchuz (an extended version of Brooklyn Zoo), Kendra, Lady Raw, Cuffie Crime Family, Don Chulo, Sic, and Zu Ninjaz (another group of Brooklyn Zu affiliates, but from New Jersey). The most promising of these groups are The Brooklyn Zu affiliates (Manchuz and Zu Ninjaz) and The Cuffie Crime Family (members are Free Murda and Shacronz) who, since then, have changed their name to Division. Those are the only ones i Kept hearing from after this album. This isn't really a Poppa Wu album, but a compilation of Wu-Tang affiliated MCs along with new ones introduced by Poppa Wu. It's a album worth checking out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wu Fam Represent!, November 27, 2001
This cd is tight, This is Popa Wu's first album, although he doesn't appear on the cd, he produced it with RZA. is a good way for Wu fans to listen to little known Wu Fam artists. the Tracks produced by Buddha Monk Are off the hook(1,6,8,13) wich makes me think to go buy he's solo album. It was good to hear something new from La Da Darkman. Zu Ninjas and the Manchuz came out with some tight tracks, while O.D.B. was as good as he was on "return to the 36 chambers" with he's group Brooklyn Zu. Meth's lyrics were tight, although the cd says that Killarmy performed a song for this album, i don't see it. Wu fans peep this album is tight. and for those of you who love Wu Tang back in '93 there's a cd coming out that is banging, is from wu fam's Cilvaringz and the cd is called "the killa bee sching" he rocks the old wu sounds that went away in the mid 90's I don't know if the cd will be available in the states, but amazon.com may carry it as an import.(just like Tekitha's album Wisdom Body) the album features Rza, Remedy, Lynn Brothaz. peace godz

5.0 out of 5 stars HOT!HOT!HOT!, January 2, 2001
By A Customer
AS A WU FAN IM HAPPY TO SEE SOME NEW FACES COME OUT. ALTHOUGH I DON'T THINK PAPA WU ACTUALLY SAY'S A THING ON THIS ALBUM. SOME OF THESES NEW ARTIST REALLY NEED TO BE HEARD. THE BROOKLYN ZU SHOULD BE THE NEXT ARTISTS TO COME OUT OF THIS WHOLE WU-TANG ERA. CHECK OUT "THE BACK OF THE CHURCH" THESES GUYS HAVE A DIFFERENT SOUND AND WILL PROBABLY BE THE NEXT WU FAM STARS.
