The handlebar mount and the Iphone attachment are two separate pieces. The flat Iphone attachment clips, tenuously, to the handlebar mount with four small plastic tabs. The handlebar mount clips more securely onto the handlebar with thicker plastic in two pieces, like a clamshell.

About three weeks after this arrived, I was riding on a paved road and hit a small pothole--nothing out of the ordinary for road biking. The Iphone attachment (with my Iphone attached) came completely off of the handlebar mount and dangled for a moment from the headset. Fortunately, it didn't tangle in the front wheel. Instead, it fell off the headset jack and hit the road. The Iphone attachment broke free from the Iphone and shot off into the roadside weeds. The Iphone bounced along the pavement for several yards before coming to a rest in the middle of the road.

I was incredibly lucky to get away with just a badly scratched phone--seems to still work okay. Thanks, Apple. The Iphone attachment is still lost in the weeds--fine by me, since I wouldn't want to risk using it again.
