Great obscure read,
This review is from: The Visitor (Paperback)
My friend and I were roaming rummage sales in the summer of 1999 and I bought "The Visitor" as one of a dozen books for $1.00. I was so glad that I did. This intriguing tale is about a very strange young woman in a mental institution with terrifying powers. It is also the story of a husband and wife struggling to make their marriage succeed. The husband-a smug pychiatrist works at the institution where "the visitor" is housed. The story is fast paced and rewarding, though pretty gruesome at times. Its fabulous.

An extremely underrated supernatural thriller,
By Brinkley (Blairsville, GA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Visitor (Hardcover)
I first read this novel (the paperback edition) back in the summer of 1979 when I was 12 years old, and to this day I still regard it as one of the best supernatural horror novels I've ever read. The overall mood and atmosphere of the book is very chilling--even though most of the events take place in broad daylight, adding an element of so-called "sunlit horror". The novel's final scene, however, does take place at night and it's a scene that I will never forget. Being only twelve at the time, it made a huge impression on me.
I've always thought it was a shame that no director/producer saw fit to make this excellent novel into a movie. Oh, what a great chiller it would be!
