5.0 out of 5 stars An emotional trip - well worth the ride!, March 24, 2002

This review is from: The Visitors' Gifts (Paperback)
Bravo to Nora M. Mulligan!

The Visitors' Gifts was a heart-wrenching journey that swept me along with it from start to finish.

John, our main character, has a job as a counselor to those whose loved ones have been Taken by the alien Visitors. A difficult enough job made worse by the fact that his own wife, Lila, has also been Taken! Trying hard to follow the rules of this modern day, John struggles to maintain a normal life for himself and his two daughters, one of whom has been unbearable since her mother has been gone. When the day comes for his own wife to be returned to them, they are ecstactic! That euphoria does not last long however, something is not right and their world soon begins to spin out of control..

Put your chores and errands on hold - once you begin to read this page-turner, your day and night will run along without you.

I felt as if I knew each of the characters personally. They were well developed and believable. The story was fast paced and interesting. Though I am not normally a science fiction reader, I would highly recommend this book! An excellent read!

Thank you Nora for the journey. I look forward to more of your books in the future. Keep 'em coming!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A thoughtful and fascinating work, May 16, 2002
This review is from: The Visitors' Gifts (Paperback)
Nora M. Mulligan's The Visitors' Gifts is an impressively written science fiction novel about a future Earth that shares an uneasy existence with the alien Visitors, who "borrow" people for unknown reasons for years, then return them with no explanation and no memory of what happened while they were "Taken." This widespread practice has created need for Repatriation Counselors like John Salient, who helps people cope with the extended absence of their own loved ones. But when Salient's own wife is returned to him after a two-year borrowing, the changes she brings to Earth threaten to destroy the world. A thoughtful and fascinating work, The Visitor's Gifts is recommended for avid science fiction buffs.
