After paying a GAULING 150$ for this book, I would have to say that first impressions were not too good. Over the first few chapters I came to appreciate the quality of the material. It is interesting and quite complete. I actually enjoy the textbook as well as the videos.


The online component is another matter. The servers are OFTEN OVERLOADED while you are trying to get homework done for a deadline. In addition, the online grading is POOR. No one took the time to carefully create multiple alternative answers to sentences.

For 150$ the online material is brutally not ready for primetime. My instructor made all the graded material credit/no credit because it was so unreliable.

I bought this book trying to save some money. Turns out that this is the kind of book that is best purchased either new, or slightly used. The title of the book is confusing (this particular edition is no longer used and it comes with a workbook and an internet key which can only be used once, so either way I lost time and money. This is a great place to buy books, but this particular one is simply out of date and has been revised with the same title which can be a little tricky.

This book's online resources are amazing!!! It has helped me learn so much and really provides great tutorials and practice work for each lesson. There are a lot of exercises to help with pronouncing each word correctly. One of the greatest helps is the mini "lectures" creatively designed that feature a cartoon professor that takes each section step by step and explains it. The book alone, without the online help, would not be quite as helpful because a lot of the practice activities corrdinate with the online material, however the book does still contain most of the fundamental information.
