4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for VB5 and intermediate programmers
This book contains great information for all level VB programmers. It is a good study guide for beginners while it provides enough information to help intermediate and advanced developers move to a higher level.

It also helps VB5 or earlier version programmers because it indicates new features in VB6 with good explaination.

This book is organized in the way that...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good intermediate level book, April 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Visual Basic® 6 Secrets® (Paperback)
Only some naive people may expect to find a lot of secrets in such book. If you need advanced stuff buy specific books,i.e. VB + COM or VB + API. At least there you have a chance to find answers for your specific problems. This book mostly shows basic VB stuff and I've got some interesting ideas. Book is definitely more advanced than comparable VB books about everything. Author add a lot of VB6 topics, but it looks that code is created with beta version of VB6 and I can't either directly compile it or find an update on WWW site. And finding in some pieces of code that they're written for VB4 secrets book in 1995 isn't too polite to readers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not useful at all..., January 18, 2000

I bought this book in a local shop, hoping it would describe some advanced aspects of VB programming. What a dissapointment! There's absolutely nothing good to say about this book - avoid it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Misleading title, good info for beginners wanting more, March 8, 1999
This review is from: Visual Basic® 6 Secrets® (Paperback)
What you see on the cover and what you get inside are different. This book contains no "insider secrets", instead what you have here is the information that sets the beginner apart from the intermediate VB programmer.

I give it three stars for content, because it does cover a lot of intermediate-advanced level topics, but it only skims the surface of the advanced level stuff (Win32 API calls, using of the Registry).

There are no professional "secrets" found anywhere in this book, in fact about 1/4 of the book is aimed competely at the beginner, most of the remaining text helps the beginner become and intermediate level VB programmer.

Go flip though it before you buy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Most of the so-called 'secrets' are beginners stuff., February 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Visual Basic® 6 Secrets® (Paperback)
As an experienced VB programmer I bought this book hoping to pick up the odd advanced hint or tip. I was very disappointed. I learnt nothing new. The book is meant to be aimed at intermediate to advanced developers, but I doubt even junior programmers would learn anything useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for intermediate Visual Basic 6 users., October 14, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Visual Basic® 6 Secrets® (Paperback)
This books stated purpose in the preface is to let you know what the VB gurus know. It does that. It doesn't pretend to teach you all of the basics of VB, even though it does give a pretty good review of most topics. Instead what you get are little snapshots of secrets that would be hard to find without reading a lot of other books. I got a lot out of this book by just looking for the padlock icons (secrets) in the margins, and then reading those topics. To get the most out of this book you probably need to have VB 6 Professional or Enterprise Edition loaded. Some sections of this book are for just Enterprise Edition users. I keep a copy of this book on my desk all of the time.
