This book takes a conventional--and generally effective--approach to the problem of teaching a nonprogrammer how to write computer code. After a quick orientation to the Visual Basic Editor, the process of running your code, and the overall structure of VBA modules, the author explains core language elements. You'll learn about variables, operators, and--in general terms--objects. This grounding prepares you for the sections that reveal VBA objects exposed by Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Though he provides decent coverage of objects and their general use, it would be better if the book were organized in a way that made reference easier.
VBA has plenty of power to build user interfaces for databases, and VBA for Microsoft Office 2000 covers those capabilities in some detail. This book supplies substantial insight that will enable you to program with references to Data Access Objects (DAO), Jet databases, and open database connectivity (ODBC) Direct workspaces. (Sample code is included.) There's also information on the objects that facilitate network publishing. --David Wall

PowerPoint Samples have compile and runtime errors.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Visual Basic Applications for Office 2000 Unleashed (Paperback)
I normally buy these type of books to save time by getting sample apps that work immediately. Instead, I had to spend my time fixing compile and runtime errors with the PowerPoint Sample code and the author neglected to give you any clue on what reference libraries were needed.

Outstanding Book!,

This review is from: Visual Basic Applications for Office 2000 Unleashed (Paperback)
This book covers a ton of good information. Good explanations are given for the examples. Contains real world examples, very useful. I'm getting the best out of the book by reading it all through and running and stepping through the examples. The book does contain a few errors, but very little to make a difference. I'm glad that I bought this book. So will you.

I still make good use of this book - I'm a bit taken aback to now realize in 2010 that 10 years have passed since Windows 2000 and Office 2000. But then I still use my BIC four-colored pen, too... Ha !!! Books such as this one are often useful for orientation - they give a sense of the game and the rules. Which when doing hand-crafted programming is a great boon !!! :)
