5.0 out of 5 stars I think it's great!, April 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Visual Basic 5: Superbible Set: Boxed (Paperback)
I was a little startled to see that some reviewers thought this book worth only 2 stars. After reading their reviews I see that they're punishing the book for being a reference work instead of being an advanced tutorial on whatever subjects they're looking for.

In fact, the front cover declares it to be "The Programmer's Complete Visual Basic Reference". It is in fact a reference work, declares itself to be so and, in my opinion, does an exceptional job of it.

Even though we're using Visual Studio 6 and this book covers only VB 5 I bought copies of this book for my entire development team since I was so impressed with it as a reference. Even though we develop plenty of on-line help ourselves it doesn't lend itself very well to flipping through the pages... and I find that useful even with a reference book.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book fails to deliver detailed information., July 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Visual Basic 5: Superbible Set: Boxed (Paperback)
This book fails to deliver on the goods it promisses. On the back of the book box, it proclaims EXAUSTIVE coverage of everything including database integration, Add-ins, SQL server, ect... . This couldn't be further from the truth, in fact the text doenst go in depth with any of these topics. With over 2,000 pages to read you'd think they would cover some ground wouldn't you? I bought the set on discount and it wasn't even worth that much. A wide variety of topics were only BRIEFLY addressed, do yourself a favor, look for VB books published by WROX, at least they care about what your reading. In the meantime, i have wasted my time and space on my bookshelf because of this text.
