Life Changing!,
By
This review is from: Visual Bible: Book of Matthew with Bonus Video Falling Fire (DVD)
The Matthew film has made a huge impact on my vision of the personality and character of Jesus. This film is word for word to the NIV translation of the Gospel of Matthew, and shows the chapters and verses in the lower corner of the screen. There are no added stories, characters, or words; but all of the emotions are expressed to their fullest which gives you a great understanding and meaning behind what is being said. It identifies a very approachable and caring Jesus figure. This film has inspired everyone I have shown it to (and I have shown it to many). In my personal opinion, the character of Jesus that is portrayed in this film, matches the Gospel more than any other movie I have ever seen about Jesus. This video has given me a great picture to go with the words written in the Bible and has helped me get a better understanding of what I am reading. I highly recommend this and all the other films made by The Visual Bible; they really do an outstanding job of adding personality to the characters. I am convinced that this is very close to the way it really happened (besides being white and speaking english of course;) I hope this review helped!

A happy Jesus?,
By S. A. Hildebrand "S. A. Hildebrand" (Longview, Texas United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Visual Bible's Matthew [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Are you tired of reenactments that aren't faithful to scripture? Then the Visual Bible is for you. This entire four hour video is word-for-word from the NIV. No subtractions or deletions. It is beautifully filmed and would be great for group study. You can even follow along with the verses because they are placed at the bottom of the screen. The Jesus of this video is amazing. He's full of life and happy. Yes, I said, "happy". If you're used to the older videos such as "Jesus of Nazereth" and "The Greatest Story Ever Told" then this portrayal of Jesus may be a bit of a shock. I'm not down-playing these videos, I think they're great. However, the "Visual Bible" seems to better portray Jesus as the scriptures do. By the end of this video you truly see the bond between Jesus and the apostles. You will also see the most gruesome crucifixion scene that I've ever seen done. You can almost feel His pain. I would definitely recommend this video to anyone wishing to enrich his or her spiritual life through the powerful medium of video.

A Great New Way to View an Old Story,
By Mark Baker (Santa Clarita, CA United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Visual Bible: Book of Matthew with Bonus Video Falling Fire (DVD)
Using the NIV text as the basis, these DVD's are a film recording of the gospel of Matthew. All the dialog, narration, everything is directly from the Bible. The wonder of these videos, however, is the fact that they are able to make you think. While sticking so closely to the Bible and with well researched visuals, the producers, directors, and actors give their own interpretation of the story, which allows you to open your eyes to something new. The best example of this is Bruce Marchiano's portrayal of Jesus. Instead of the solemn, serious person you usually picture, here we see a person who enjoyed life, laughed, and had some fun in between dealing with the serious issues of life. When I first watched these videos, it made me look at my preconceived ideas of God very differently. While expensive, these DVD's are worth checking out for a different perspective on a familiar tale.

Life-changing,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Visual Bible's Matthew [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video portrays Jesus in a way that I have never experienced. It depicts Him with very real emotions. There is laughter, joy, sadness, despair, etc. I was very impressed with the fact that the entire story was told from scripture...verbatim. There is no words added, whatsoever, it's told strictly from scripture. I didn't think I would like that but that turned out to be one of the most impressive things. This video will definitely change your life. If you don't Christ, you will...if you want to know Him better...you will! After watching this, I don't know how anyone could refuse His gift of salvation!

This video series was instrumental in my coming to Christ for the first time in my life! After seeing these I could no longer deny Jesus' love! Instead of the fire & brimstone God I always heard about growing up, this video shows Jesus as the joyful & loving God that I now *KNOW* HE is! Bruce Marchiano's portryal of Jesus touched my heart so deeply I wish I could thank him personally.Don't miss this one!

Oh to see the Master smile!,
By Andy Dodd (lighthouse33@earthlink.net) (Tennessee) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Gospel According to Matthew (The Visual Bible) (Vols 1-3, chapters 1-28) SPECIAL COMMEMORATIVE EDITION [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a master piece of Biblical movie making. "Matthew" should in no way be confused with Hollywood productions such as, Jesus of ..., or The King of ... This movie is even more incredible on DVD, the scenes can be easily jumped between, and the sound and video quality are rich and vibrant. Oh the joy of seeing Jesus smile. This is not some emotionless, prozac, Jesus, this is a smiling, joyful, powerful portrait of our Savior. "Matthew" would be a great part of any Christian minister, or lay persons library.

A 'must see' film!!!,

This review is from: The Gospel According to Matthew (The Visual Bible) (Vols 1-3, chapters 1-28) SPECIAL COMMEMORATIVE EDITION [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The Visual Bible's "Matthew" was the best film I have ever seen on the life of Jesus Christ. Not only is it word for word from the scripture, the portrayal of Jesus is absolutely wonderful. The film shows us a Jesus who laughs, loves, smiles and weeps. Jesus is shown as a real person, but the film leaves no doubt about His divinity. This is not some somber, aloof Lord no one can relate to, but a vibrant, exuberant Son of God! Thank you Mr. van den Bergh for having the insight and courage to break away from the traditional portrayals of Jesus! Thank you Mr. Marchiano for the excellent job you did! I sure hope that we will see more of the Visual Bible.

Visual Bible is very INSPIRING,
By DXSammy (United States) - See all my reviews

My love for Jesus Christ has grown even more after I watched this video. It touched me how Jesus was portrayed as a happy, outgoing type of guy. The 4 Video series did an excellent job of copying the Matthew Gospel word for word. God Bless the makers of the video, and God Bless Bruce for an excellent job of portraying the Son of Man as a caring teacher, loving master, and a merciful savior. Take my words for it, this video is very inspiraitonal, you will not regret it.

The Visual Book of Matthew,
By Carol Corbett (Long Island, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Visual Bible's Matthew [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This series of 4 video tapes was excellent! The dialogue is word-for-word from the International Version of the Bible so the content is absolutely correct. In fact, you can follow along with your own Bible as the film progresses. Bruce Marciano (as Jesus) is superb, as is Richard Kiley (who plays Matthew when he was older). The scenery and settings are wonderful, the music is well written, and the Gospel seemed to became even more real - this is an extraordinarily moving account. I believe it would be very meaningful to show to groups of young people (and/or older people), perhaps followed by discussion. Don't miss this one!
