Purchased this book for my seven-year-old son. Althought it's not specifically a children's book, it was PERFECT for him because it has so much information on each particular dinosaur--a page or two on each. It is now so worn from use that I may be buying another copy. By far his favorite dinosaur book.

Although this is a small book, it's thick and chock full of dinosaurs. What's really great is it isn't jut you t-Rex and raptor stuff it's much more in depth.
There are plenty of ones you probably have never even heard of, let alone have facts about their size and qualities.
This book is more suitable for older kids but one to read at bedtime until they are older
Lots of stuff very hard to find online easily.

I read all the reviews on several of these books and settled on this one. It turned out to be be not what I was looking for, which shows how difficult it can be to select a book and how useless a review can be. The book is nice, so we will keep it, but in case someone else is in this position, maybe my opinion will help. My son is four and he began really loving dinosaurs, so I thought we would get an encyclopedia-type text with many more that he could see and learn about than just our little dino book. What we need is an alphabetized, user-friendly book with all the dinosaurs and a sketch of each one. Also a phonetic pronunciation would be nice. This book is organized by period (triassic, jurassic, cretaceous, etc), which is just too confusing for us at our level of learning. Using the index is cumbersome for look ups, would be nice to just flip to the letter, etc. Some dinos have no drawings or just skeletons. He likes to see the actual beast.

Got it for my seven year old son, he loves it, takes it to school shows it to his friends and is curious about dinosaurs even more nowadays.

So my son was just turning 3 when he fell in love with this book from the library. I had to buy it for him and it is still one of his favorites almost a year later. He loves to see all the pictures and names of the dinosaurs, and as he gets older I'm sure he will enjoy learning more about each one. A must for any dino-lover.

Love it - it's filled with lots of great facts but easy to get around and locate specific info if you need it. Kids and adults will love this one!

My 7 year old son has had this book for a couple of years and it is still used very often. In fact one of his good friends is himself a walking dinosaur encyclopedia and my son hids this book every time this friend comes over to play. If he doesn't hid the book his friend spends the entire day reading this book instead of playing with him. His friend has also requested this book for his birthday. Therefore, I highly recommend this book since it is always picked up before any of our other dinosaur books by kids of different knowledge levels...and we have many dinosaur books.

I got this book for my 7 year old nephew for Christmas. Haven't given it to him yet, but think he'll love it! Has great pictures and loads of info. I didn't realize it was as small as it is, but that's my fault for not checking the dimensions. :)

Keep the dimensions in mind when you buy this one.

Even with it's small size though you do get quite a bit of information and a lot of nice visuals on each page. It's is a pretty comprehensive guide to a lot of the 'standard' dinos out there and a few you've never heard of. It also sticks mostly to the subject. It does go a bit outside of the dino info and into some early mammals but all around, it's a great little encyclopedia.
