Although I have tried a few other methods, and still use some of them for a bit a variety from time to time, I keep coming back to Visual Link Spanish Level 1. The reason is simple....it is the only computer or on-line based course I have found so far that builds the learning and understanding of the language in a logical, block-wise phrase and sentence construction manner. It is high quality and easy to use and follow. I, for one, am not convinced that adults can learn a second language the way we learned our native language. That would be nice, but barring an immersion into a Spanish-only speaking situation, I just don't see it happening. However, as the name implies, there are constant visual links in this course as well as repetition, quizzes, and games which force you to listen to and respond to phrases, sentences, and questions spoken by native Spanish speakers. This is the only course I have seen, and I have looked at or tried many, that teach you how Spanish phrases are constructed. Once you get the gist of this, then it is only a matter of learning new vocabulary to add to your ability to speak in all situations. For me, learning vocabulary is the relatively easy part of a new language....putting it together into phrases is the tricky part. This course approaches this in a logical "group words" fashion where you have group 1, group 2, and group 3 words that build a sentence or phrase. Along with this, you learn common modifying words and before long you can say almost anything about any common situation. After this you need only to substitute or add new vocabulary words into the "group words" as you learn more vocabulary.
