In the interest of full disclosure, I write book reviews for Small Business Trends and the official review of this book is still in the works. I do want to comment on this book as a small business owner AND as marketing professional.

What makes Visual Marketing a must-own book is in the sub-title "99 Proven Ways for Small Businesses to Market with Images and Design" -- this is what every small business owner and marketing professional wants -- examples and ideas that they can swipe and adapt.

What I love about the examples that are in this book is that they are real-life small business examples. Anita even has an example from her own business included. What's great about this is that every example is something that any small business owner can use and adapt -- no dreaming of big budgets required.

The one drawback from the book is that the pictures are in black and white. But this is really a minor point. This is one of those books you'll want to take out and brainstorm with.

I met Anita Campbell in the early 2000s when she was just venturing into the web. Over the years, I've seen Anita provide a wealth of information and opportunities to help small business owners be successful.

This book, that she and her co-author David Langton have put together, follows that same pattern. It is exactly what I would expect -- full of excellent case studies, examples and easy-to-use tips that a small business owner can put into action right now.

A very easy read, it's a book you'll want to keep handy to help you brainstorm ideas for your next marketing campaign. A must for every small business owner.

Visual Marketing: 99 Proven Ways for Small Businesses to Market with Images and Design

This is the kind of book you would want to run to the nearest library to read when you start your campaign planning and ponder on ways to increase your business. Used well as a brainstorming tool it would be a good arsenal for any business owner, marketer or a agency. The example of TEDIndia from Page 155 is a good example of a Global brand using local ' Currency" - I know how popular TED is in India now first hand as when I visited India recently my family told me they wanted to go the TEDx in Hyderabad and the event had sold out.

On page 109 was an idea of digitizing the loyalty program and that was a topic of conversation I had just yesterday with some friends. This illustrates the wide variety and collection of case studies of ideas that appealed and worked. hand Drawn promos, cartoons, wines, spin records, freebies everything I could think of was in the book. If the book comes out again I am sure it will have color photos like Scott suggested above.

The visual marketing guide is a great book with a marketing takeaway to implement on each and every page.

As a small business owner, this is a book that you will want to keep on your desk when thinking up new creative ways to market your company that will help you generate positive bottom-line results.

Swipe the ideas that worked from organizations who spent millions on the specific campaigns outlined in the book.

One piece of feedback for future versions (Why I gave it 4/5 stars) - Please use color pictures instead of black and white. I feel this would add even more value to each independent case study.

It's simple and easy to read. I personally felt like I already knew everything in the book. It just kind of repeats itself over and over. They focus a lot on internet business and advertisement, which is super important, but to me also pretty obvious. Get it if you are looking for something basic or are feeling totally clueless.

The book covered a wide range of businesses and products most of which won't be even closely related to yours or mine but you'll be able to take these tips and apply them to your business no sweat!

The book is very well organized, each example includes "why it works", "success metrics" and a "takeaway tip". The takeaway tip, to me, was by far the most insightful. It's basically a summary of what each example was about, I used it to get an idea of what I might be reading about in each example before starting.

One drawback I did find was that all the examples are in black and white, which kind of seems kind of silly. It's not very visually appealing at all. But since the examples really packed a punch I was able to look past that.

All in all, it's a great book that definitely left me inspired.
