4.0 out of 5 stars Good practical advice, many exercises to learn visualization, March 27, 1998

Fanning has chapters for basic visualization techniques with many exercises. Further chapters contain detailed visualization for specific problms such as weight loss, anxiety. I found the material very practical and straightforward. I am using it to record relaxation audio tapes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seems like a really good book!, March 9, 2007

(REAL NAME)
Ok - first I'll admit that I've only just started in on this book. However I've been avoiding doing any creative visualization for months now even though I knew I should be getting into it. This book has motivated me to start, and that alone is worth 5 stars to me. The book appears very well written and I really like the preliminary information on breathing correctly (and in addition, *WHY* someone should do this - which so many other books omit) plus a section on energy breathing, a very powerful technique I've used in the past. Meeting the "Inner Advisor" is an excellent section and I like the way he has presented it. It's a curious concept which is in many visualisation books - I first came across it in Lee Poulos's audio course though he didn't really inspire me to start in on visualisation at the time. If it sounds wacky to you, bear in mind that Carl Jung had for a great part of his life a special inner advisor called "Philemon" who encouraged him to do so much of his work. Also one thing that has inspired me in this field is a workmate who has had very profound experiences with her inner advisor whom she spends time with while deep in meditation most mornings.

I'll try to update this review when I've read much more if it, but from the outset, I am very pleased indeed with my purchase. Potentially Martin Rossman's book "Guided Imagery for Self-Healing" might also be worth looking at for those trying to alleviate health problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on visualization, April 9, 2007

I think this is the best book on the subject of visualization. I like it more than Martin Rossman's book that I find quite useful too. And not to even mention books by Shakti Gawain which are so religious I couldn't read them. Fanning' book is very detailed, while being not too heavy on the theory. Has lots of ideas for application of imagery, and many useful advices for the practice. I am very happy with this book and expect to refer to it for many years to come.
