Review - Visualized Flight Maneuvers Handbook,
By
This review is from: Visualized Flight Maneuvers Handbook: For High Wing Aircraft (Visualized Flight Maneuvers Handbooks Series) (Spiral-bound)
I am a high time pilot; a former flight instructor in the process of seeking reinstatement of my flight instruction privlidges. In quest of this reinstatement, I have read in detail five to eight of the Private and Commercial pilot training or educational publications in the past year (2008)searching different perspectives on how to effectively teach aspiring students. The Visualized Flight Maneuvers proved proved to be one of the easiest to understand and effective teaching tools I uncovered; providing clear and measurable guidelines/targets in each maneuver described. I was impressed enough that I wanted to include the counter-part version book dealing with low wing airplanes in my revived "teaching kit" as well. This book does not deal a lot with the "why" of these maneuvers; information that better found in other readings. But I found this book to be the best of the "how to" guidelines! // Richard Eastman

I'm a student pilot preparing for my Private Pilot checkride. This book is a great study and practice aid. Each procedure from preflight and startup to shutdown, and every maneuver for private, commercial, & CFI are clearly illustrated and concisely described. I especially like the bold-face keywords for each step in a maneuver. They are particularly helpful for the way I tend to use the book: during solo flights, I clip it to my kneeboard and glance down at the next keyword while I practice a maneuver.
I also use this book extensively in ground study. There are blanks at appropriate places to write in the V-speeds and other memory items specific to your aircraft, which is very nice. One detraction is the book's design: every page has a foldout, which can make it a little awkward to handle, especially in the cockpit where you probably only have one hand free.

I found this book from ASA extremely helpful as I prepared for my PPC proficiency test in a Cessna 172.
Most flight maneuvers have double-to-quadruple fold-out pages so that you can really "see" what you need to do in order to execute all of the proficiency test maneuvers. Coupled with "Private Pilot Test Prep" (2007 version), also from ASA, the student pilot will be well prepared for both the written and flight proficiency exams. |
