Liberty, Waldo County, Maine is located sixteen miles west southwest of Belfast Maine and was first incorporated 31 Jan. 1827. In 1986 the Liberty town clerk allowed Isabel to photocopy all of the original town records going back 170 years. These records were originally published by Picton Press in 1993 as facsimile copies. On 23 Jan. 1999 the building which housed the town offices was burned, destroying the old original town records. Following the fire, Isabel typed the records from the published facsimile, which was a difficult task due to the poor condition of the copied material. To these records of births and deaths she has added intentions of marriage and marriages of Liberty residents which she extracted from the records of surrounding towns and from Waldo County Marriages. She has also added the 1927 Brief History of Liberty and census records for the year 1920.
With the loss of the town records by fire, Isabel has done us all a tremendous favor by making this data readily available to everyone.
