Regular bread flour is missing some of the elastic wheat protein that produces a better quality bread. By adding Vital Wheat Gluten to your home-baked breads, you will produce a better quality of bread--better texture, less crumbly, and more like bakery-quality bread. Experiment with amounts; I use 1 teaspoon of Vital Wheat Gluten per cup of flour. However, even just 1 additional tablespoon of Vital Wheat Gluten per 1.5 lb loaf of bread turns out a better loaf. For the amount of gluten used, this item is certainly worth the cost. Keep your gluten in the freezer to extend shelf life.

Just like the box reads. Makes a great additive for bread makers. Wheat gluten adds a sort of texture to your bread that makes it stick together wonderfully. There seems to be some kind of anti-wheat gluten fad in America right now, but in bread making the stuff is a must have, unless you prefer your bread to fragment when you cut it.

I like to make bread (breadmaker and by hand). For the breadmaker loaves, the added gluten has made a world of difference in the texture. The directions say to use one tablespoon per cup of flower. The bread came out too "chewy" witht hat much added gluten (I am using "bread flour". I cut the gluten addition in half and have had wonderful results.

I purchased this becauset he bread I'd make in the breadmaker wasn't sticking together and I heard of this product from my aunt who gave me a recipe w/ it in it. I tried it and couldn't stop raving about it - now I use this to make the bread and bake it in the oven not the breadmaker, that helps too :)

As the headline states, this product works great. I recently purchased a bread machine to start making my own bread, to get away from the preservatives most commercially made breads have, and to use mostly whole wheat and rye flour that I grind myself, as the white flour is hard on my diabetes. As an example, I will use 3 cups of whole wheat flour to 1 cup of white, and without the gluten, the dough does not rise well and makes for a very dense loaf. The gluten helps overcome this. Have been pleased with this product, and have almost used up the package. Have not tried it yet, but in ordering more gluten, I purchased Honeyville gluten in a 3.5 lb can, also from Amazon. I will be making all of my own bread from now on, as it taste great and makes great gifts, and did this as a little cheaper than the 10 oz package, and figured the can would be more convenient for use. Will be trying soon and will rate it as well.

Unbelievably, this box of powdery product was packed in a simple, unpadded, manila envelope. No wonder it arrived absolutely smashed flat! The box really looked like it had been through a terrible journey on its way to me . . . Thankfully, the inner plastic bag (inside the product box) did not rupture, so the gluten powder itself was fine and perfectly usable.

I just can't figure out what the person was thinking who chose that manila envelope . . .
