Book Description

September 1, 1998
Written clearly and accessibly with the layperson in mind, "Vitamin B6 Therapy" describes the critical role that this nutrient plays in the body's various processes, especially in protein utilization. Because the vitamin can be lost in food-manufacturing procedures such as canning and freezing, it isn't always easy to get enough B6 in one's diet. This book tells how to, and explains which supplements to take to alleviate various health problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars An important book about an essential nutrient, September 29, 2011

This review is from: Vitamin B6 Therapy: Nature's Versatile Healer (Mass Market Paperback)
Vitamin B6 -- like all vitamins and many minerals -- is essential for human health. But vitamin B6 is a coenzyme for more than 100 human enzymes, and therefore deficiency of B6 can cause many seemingly-unrelated ailments, as discussed in this important book. Deficiency of vitamin B6 has been found to be associated with a wide variety of ailments including allergies, atherosclerosis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and even autism.

However, taking extra B6 has been the source of controversy because there is some evidence that relatively small supplemental doses of B6 can be harmful. While it is true that too much of anything -- including water -- can be harmful, the problems attributed to B6 supplementation are quite probably due to B6 being synergistic with the essential mineral magnesium. People who get enough magnesium can safely take and utilize more B6 than can people who are deficient in magnesium. Unfortunately, about 80% of Americans are deficient in magnesium. Thus, people who need extra B6 should probably also take extra magnesium -- preferably as chelated magnesium.

Everyone who is interested in maintaining -- and potentially improving -- their health would do well to acquire and read this book.
