4.0 out of 5 stars The D Factor...Vitamins; Diet and Disease Explored! September 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a very well researched book with sufficient medical terminology to enable even a young person to be able to grasp the basics of Vitamin D and the importance of this Vitamin in maintaining health.

The writing style of the Author is relaxed, with just enough scientific data and description to keep the reader engaged without being boring! Every aspect of the benefits of Vitamin D is discussed in detail as are the effects of deficiency.
There are many facts and figures discussed, relating to the known links to disease and other ailments pertaining to insufficient Vitamin D.

The Author deals with age related Vitamin D shortfall and covers in some depth the needs of the over 70's and Pregnant Women. The startling facts of low Vitamin D intake during gestation and the resultant problems with infants are disturbing!
Plenty of debate on that elusive element which occasionally breaks through the clouds in the Northern Hemisphere and the importance of getting out in the sun to absorb the UV rays.

I liked this book for the detail and obvious care the Author has taken with his research. He also appears to be passionate about his chosen subject. To be able to put this very serious message across in a straightforward manner without losing readers along the way is certainly worth a mention.
As an aging Boomer, interested in this subject, I can thoroughly recommend this book for readers of all ages.
The downside is not one of content or delivery but one of presentation. There are some serious flaws in the formatting leading to acres of white space before and after chapters. I have been reading this on my Cloud drive and will amend my comment if this is not so evident on an actual Kindle.

There are far too many typos and grammatical errors for my liking which is a shame considering this is a very valuable resource. A further proof read and republish will put this book where it the best seller category!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Importance of Vitamin D September 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Every time I read about Vitamin D it has another benefit! And the medical community is paying attention to this important vitamin (which is actually a hormone.) This little book gives you lots of good info without wasting words. Discover the 5 different types of D, how they help and how much experts advise taking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, basic information, well organized September 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the third Vitamin D book I've read recently, and it's easily the most direct, interesting and well-researched. It will give you a good foundation in the importance of Vitamin D.

The beginning of the book made me pause. Reading all those statistics, I was afraid it was yet another badly phrased rehash of Wikipedia information. Thank heavens, it's not. It takes medical double-talk and confusing details and presents them in simple terms you can understand without a dictionary.

And, though this book focuses on the basics, it may interest dedicated health enthusiasts, too. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered a few things that were new to me. This isn't just a read-and-delete Kindle book, but one that I'll keep for future reference.

I especially liked the breakdown of the different kinds of Vitamin D, where they come from, and what they do.

The list of recommended foods is presented with minimal flourish... just the facts and some attractive photos. I like that. When a book shares information in short, clear, direct terms, it's easier to skim. I gleaned quite a few tips within minutes of opening this book.

Do you know if you're getting enough Vitamin D and how it might impact your health? Do you know the simplest ways to be sure you're getting enough Vitamin D? Start with this book. It's a good, solid foundation for glowing health.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good information February 4, 2013
By HilDan
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Good information in this book in easy to read and understand language. The author draws attention to the importance of vitamin D. Recommended supplementation is based on current guidelines, which often fall short of actual need. In order to determine what is right for you, do yourself a favor and check out other books on vitamin D in particular with regard to supplementation. For example, a more authoritative book (in my opinion) by Sarfraz Zaidi, MD, Power of Vitamin D, explains and backs up reasons for much higher doses. It's your call.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vitamins D Diet Benefits November 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's amazing to know how many benefits you can get just from one vitamin! It's also a bit scary to know the possibilities that could happen when you don't have enough of it. So, if you're a mother or a person who watches their diet or if you're someone who's conscious about their health, then put this book on your "must-read" list.

The book is direct to the point -- no more beating around the bush -- which is definitely informative and, of course, adds more to your awareness. The author, however, offers a bit of refreshment from all the information (research data and a few medical terminologies for example) by including his thoughts on the subject, making it more personal for the reader.

Really not a diet and gives no more information than can be found searching on the internet. This is good for the person who can't navigate Google or Bing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Vitamin D – finally getting attention August 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book has lots of information about Vitamin D and it is appearing at a very good time as medical research is finally showing that the lack of Vitamin D in our diets may contribute to many different health compromises and diseases.

The author gives an overview of the different types of Vitamin D (who knew that?), what symptoms suggest a Vitamin D deficiency and provides suggestions as to how to increase Vitamin D intake for all age groups from babies to seniors. Good information.

Everything in this book could easily be found on the Internet. That said, it would take some time to gather all the info. For $2.99 it's well worth it.
