Product Description

Vitamin K2 MK-7

Why Vitamin K2?
Vitamin K is an essential, fat-solube vitamin that cannot be synthesized by the body, making supplementation necessary. Vitamin K is a group of three vitamins: Vitamin K1 (phylloquinone), Vitamin K2 (menaquinone), and Vitamin K3 (menaphthone), which is synthetic. Menaquinone-7 (MK-7) is the active isomer of Vitamin K2 and has the highest bioavailability and longest half-life in the blood.

Recently published data on Vitamin K2 demonstrate its unique effect and quite astounding benefits on heart disease and bone metabolism.

Here is a side-by-side comparison of eight leading Vitamin K-2 supplements: Doctor's Best Natural Vitamin K2, Nutrigold Vitamin K2 (MK-7) Gold, Life Extension Super K with Advanced K2 Complex, Now Foods Vitamin K-2 (MK-4), Now Foods MK-7 Vitamin K-2, Jarrow Formulas MK-7, Solgar Natural Vitamin K2 (MK-7), and Thorne Research Vitamin K2 Liquid.

Vitamin K is an essential, fat-soluble vitamin that cannot be synthesized by the body, making supplementation necessary. Vitamin K is a group of three vitamins: Vitamin K1 (phylloquinone), Vitamin K2 (menaquinone), and Vitamin K3 (menaphthone). Vitamin K2 is usually found in meats, dairy, and egg yolks.

Vitamin K1 is involved in blood clotting. Vitamin K2 directs calcium into your bones and teeth instead of your arteries. I am on a Vitamin D3 regimen of 5000 I.U. daily and believe Vitamin K2 helps with the proper assimilation of that D3.

Unless it is properly directed, calcium can block arteries instead of going into your bones. This happens when calcium builds up in the blood vessels. Calcium also attaches to plaque. This can cause hardening of the arteries, heart attacks and strokes. Vitamin K2 helps calcium to go to the right places. Vitamin K2 directs calcium to go into your bones and teeth instead of your arteries. Recently published data on Vitamin K2 demonstrate its positive effect upon heart disease and bone metabolism.

Vitamin K2 includes several subtypes. The two subtypes most studied are MK-4 and MK-7. The most well studied of the menaquinones is MK-4. However, MK-7 is the most commonly derived form. MK-4 is the more difficult to find.

MK-7 remains present in the blood longer than MK-4.

I ordered K2 Mk-7 Gold (and D3 Gold) after reading THE MIRACULOUS RESULTS OF EXTREMELY HIGH DOSES OF THE SUNSHINE HORMONE VITAMIN D3 MY EXPERIMENT WITH HUGE DOSES OF D3 FROM 25,000 to 50,000 to 100,000 IU A Day OVER A 1 YEAR PERIOD and I'm glad I did. First, I researched all brands of K2 and D3 (even the one suggested in the book) but eventually chose this company because of their quality ethics, focusing on the purity of each supplement, free of all things harmful to the body.

I've been on K2 (with D3) for a week now, because I have a skin disease and I wanted a steroid alternative. Considering D3 is a secosteroid (which I now know from reading the book) I choose D3 and K2 to protect my calcium levels. So far, small patches of my skin are clearing up and my energy levels are increasing. And I am very happy they use organic olive oil as the base for their formula, considering I need more oils in my body for my skin. I ordered another bottle to continue this regimen and plan to begin using this company for my other supplemental needs. So, I am very pleased to have found this company and will also post this same review on the other products I've ordered from them to help inform others of their high quality standard and share my personal benefits. Hopefully, it will help someone to choose their vitamin company of choice.

This is my current favorite K2 supplement for a couple of reasons.

First, the vitamin is in a base of organic olive oil, and NOTHING else. As K2 is an oil soluble vitamin, an oil base is the best, and organic olive oil is a pretty healthy oil.

Second, it is in very tiny gel caps, which means it is easier to swallow, digests more easily, and has no binders, fillers, etc., to cause reactions or unwanted effects. What you get is all digestible, natural stuff. The gel caps are made of kosher bovine gelatin, water, and non-GMO vegetable glycerin.

It is certified free of soy protein, milk, eggs, peanuts, shellfish, wheat, and gluten.

Supplements don't get much better than this.

K2, in this case the MK7 form which is considered the best oral form by many, is an old vitamin with relatively little research until the last decade. This is unfortunate, since it is a critical nutrient in a vast array of metabolic processes, and has also recently been identified as Weston Price's mysterious "X-factor."

While MK7 is only one of the forms of K2 (another, MK4, is also often used for supplementation), and one is better off getting the entire range of the forms in one's food, that can be difficult unless one eats a great deal of natto or goose liver pate. If one is supplementing D3, then at least one authority on K2 recommends around 100 mcg per 1000 units of D3 being taken, in order to make sure that all the K2 dependent proteins are activated.

There are no current tests or recommendations for adequate intake, but at least one population study shows that an intake of up to 400 mcg per day is part of the diet of a very healthy group in Japan. K2 has had no known toxicity reported, so is considered very safe to supplement.

Nutrigold seemed to be a good value for K2 MK-7 at a good price. The label states that the carrier, olive oil, is organic, and that the capsules are certified free of GMO's and allergens. Unfortunately there is nothing on the label that certifies any claim. Vitamin companies can make any claim, state any potency and we the consumer must accept the label at face value. While I would like to continue taking this supplement, until Nutrigold can substantiate their claims of purity and potency, I will make my next purchase elsewhere.
