"This title goes far in answering general questions and clearing up confusion. The author, a practicing physician and medical director, covers 39 vitamins and minerals, from calcium to folic acid to zinc. . . . any library with a consumer-health section will want to purchase this excellent resource."

Book Description

When it comes to vitamins and health supplements, some blithely assume that "more is better" or "if it is over the counter, it must be safe." But making these assumptions can be a serious mistake. For example, an excess of iron can contribute to coronary artery disease; melatonin may increase the risk of seizures in patients with epilepsy.

More About the Author

Dr. Zina Kroner is the founder of Advanced Medicine of New York and is in active medical practice.

Advanced Medicine of New York is a unique center that caters to patients who want a comprehensive and personal approach to their health concerns and prevention strategies. Medical Director, Dr. Zina Kroner is a board-certified internist who completed her residency at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY, after which she was the Associate Medical Director of the Hoffman Center in NYC.

Her initial objective is to intelligently find a cause to a set of medical concerns. She utilizes astute history taking and state-of-the-art integrative and traditional laboratory and radiologic tests. Then, evidence-based nutritional and medical treatments are customized and integrated into a patient's treatment regimen. Dr. Kroner engages in proactive (rather that reactive) medical and nutritional management, encouraging discussion of cause and effect, patient education, and application of up-to-date prevention strategies. Thus, living smarter, and therefore, living longer...

This book is very informative. It covers many of the commonly "heard about" vitamins/minerals as well as some not so common ones. We are always hearing that too much of this is bad, and not enough of that is bad, but Dr. Kroner breaks it down further and explains the hows and whys on a molecular level that the reader can actually understand. There is so much knowledge in this book! If healthy living is important to you, this is a must read!

VITAMINS AND MINERALS by Dr. Zina Kroner is a first class guide to supplements. I have many books on my shelves that deal with this subject, yet on every page, the author presents important information which is new to me. Its a timely, well documented book which separates the facts from the hype. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!
